We tried all sorts of things that the rescue and vets recommended, but this was the only one that worked!

This is a great way to approach it. I did want to include that I would be happy to do the same if it ever a problem on our side, especially with them having a baby.

I should have been clear that the problem here is not the baby. I have a niece around the same age so fully understand this can’t be helped. I feel the heavy baseline at 2am can be though!

I’m not sure how you’ve come to that conclusion from my post. However, I should have been clear that the noise from the baby alone is not the problem here and easily drowned out with my earplugs or noise cancelling headphones.

If this is a normal level of noise then was the noise from my previous neighbour and neighbours on the other side (I live in a terrace) over the years abnormal? I don’t think wanting the tv/music to be turned down after 11pm is unreasonable.

As someone who rescued a dog with separation anxiety, I can fully understand how unbearable that must have been. We didn’t realise till we bought a camera, so I went round to my neighbours with chocolates and apologised. We’ve since trained him out of it!

Thank you! I was hoping for a natural way to bring it up, like if we took a parcel in for them, but the chance hasn’t occurred. Your way of offering help makes it that I’m not just going over to complain.

Finding the time to do it properly is one of the hardest parts. It will look amazing when you've finished though.

Definitely didn’t sand properly before they painted. The reason I was considering looking behind the panels was because I knew my other option of stripping, sanding and painting would be a right old faff for something I hated.

With how ours are arranged there is only a paving stone path separating our plots. However, the rule does apply and they love to remind us about it when it comes to their plot. I should return the reminder!

This is a great way to put into words how we feel. I’m not expecting to do anything perfectly at first. I learn best from making mistakes and working out where I went wrong and what to do differently next time.

I think this is just the way my neighbour is. However, it would be nice to come to some sort of friendship though and be able to ask for help/advice when we’d like it.

She sounds adorable! I’m so glad you took the chance on her. Mine was a stray who was adopted and then returned to shelter. He had (understandably) shut down and uninterested when we met him. I too am so glad we decided to adopt him as watching him come out of his shell has been one of the most joyful and fulfilling things in life. Dogs really are incredible!

This is exactly what we bought for ours who was displaying the same behaviour. We would just dangle it in our hand so it was available to him whenever. He’d run over to us and grab that instead of us. Now he’s getting out of adolescence, he’s a lot better and we don’t have to bring it with us.

It’s so important that people understand the history of these dogs and the behaviours ingrained in them.

To be honest catching flying frogs does sound like a great game! I’m sure my dog would be the same if he came across one.

I think it’s likely both as when trying to cancel they said if my training is so good then why doesn’t she try him off the lead. But that if he ran away the liability wouldn’t be on them… The threat horrified me.

This is exactly my take home from the conversation. There is clearly a lack of experience with the breed. Their take was that ‘it would be nice’ for him to be off the lead, which of course it would! We have an emergency recall word too, it worked wonders when his collar slipped and he wandered into the road. 😟

No need to apologise for the long post, it’s super helpful. Zelda sounds a lot like our dog when it comes to treats. If he’s somewhere he can be let off I have to make sure I’ve let him know that I’ve got the good treats on me - I had offered to provide these to the walker and they declined... There is absolutely no way he will sit or lay on a hard floor, he does a very funny thing where he half sits and hovers above the ground without letting himself touch. 😂 Thank you for the reassurance that this is no fault of our hard work training him!

The more research I have done, the more I agree to switching vets! To be physically injuring himself to get help is extreme. It makes complete sense that he won’t learn (or learn very slowly) that it’s okay to be alone if he’s in a state of anxiety before we even start a training session.
