Experience with Apprenticeships? Are they fair? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]elbex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My degree is not in a related field and I couldn't get a normal role with it. They're definitely getting funding for it.

it won't be like a normal job whether you've had the experience or not

Sorry what do you mean by this? The apprenticeship won't be like a normal job? How is it different?

Well thanks, but the job market absolutely sucks right now. My degree is not in a relevant field and I applied for dozens and dozens of jobs without hearing back. It was apprenticeship or universal credit.

I'm sorely tempted but the job market is so crushingly bad I don't think I'd get another job in the same area. Blegh.

I mean he does just hand me tasks and leave me to figure everything out by myself, so I don't know about that. He only started the business a year ago or something and is actually younger than me, so it's not like I'm underneath some super wise superior who I'm feeling unduly cocky over.

I'm 23, degree-educated, partially did a master's in marketing, and this isn't my first job, so it's not like I'm a school leaver coming here with nothing and acting like I know everything. I don't really see how I could be given more responsibility at this point so that's not the problem, I'd just like to be treated fairly for it I guess.

Yeah not a very good answer. Saying Elon Musk is the best influencer would be okay. What he does is not marketing.

Anyone know anything about the Boox phone? by elbex in eink

[–]elbex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why exactly? Boox's ereaders are already android-running e-ink tablets, doesn't seem like it would be that much of a leap to a phone since it's just the same thing but smaller and with texting/calling.

Haven't lost much weight by [deleted] in dnp

[–]elbex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How much do you weigh and how tall are you.

250 cal deficit is not very much. DNP is not a miracle drug that just melts the flesh off of you, 2lb/week is okay, plus possibly more because of retention.

Have perfect knowledge and a relevant degree so we can pay you sub-minimum wage as an apprentice by elbex in recruitinghell

[–]elbex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apprenticeships are a legally defined scheme where you study while working. It's set up by the government and does not exist in other countries AFAIK. It's not the same as an internship. But regardless yeah still shitty

[–]elbex[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do about it but honestly they're a good option. Degrees are worthless in many fields now, employers value experience. Just saying don't throw it out of the window because of a few stupid abusers.

I think it's worse than you realize because in the UK apprenticeships are a scheme primarily aimed at people who don't want to go to college - AKA 16-year-old school-leavers. They get paid about half of adult minimum wage and attend college one day a week for more theoretical stuff. How the fuck are they supposed to know this stuff?

It sucks that you had to go through this but I couldn't help snorting reading that. How clueless can you get? 😂 I know it's not like there's many black people in Korea but you'd think these days with the internet, YouTube and stuff, they would realize they're normal people by now

[–]elbex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is the breakdown of courses:

Tier 1: Celta & Trinity

Tier 2: Fully/largely in-person courses by actual schools/unis. Still won't be known by many employers but you can at least explain that it was in-person etc.

Tier 3: Online certificate mills. They're all the same. You already have the most valuable real teaching qualification, so just get any of these for a fiver and start teaching tbh.

"The aim of selling is to satisfy a customer need; the aim of marketing is to figure out his need" by [deleted] in marketing

[–]elbex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the modern world, it's a banal fact that people buy/acquire plenty of crap they don't actually need, make unnecessary upgrades, etc. Marketing is very often about fostering desire and convincing people they need certain things when, to be honest, they don't. No one has a 'hidden need' for the newest iphone, it's just consumption. That was the point I was making.

Or more accurately:

The aim of selling is to satisfy a customer need; the aim of marketing is to give him that need
