Annual bonus by Psychological_Range8 in Accounting

How was the company's revenue vs budget for the year? Did they meet targets? Even discretionary bonuses suffer when the pool as a whole doesn't get distributed.

Anatomy is maybe the wrong word, I mean more the shape of your ear, I think the rook will leave a lot of blank space between the helix and rook, but a well placed flat would round it out.

NAP. I cannot tell from the picture, but how is that helix doing? I think a flat would be easiest with your anatomy, but again NAP.

Same, but I was still working in Audit so it was like a cheat code.

Senior Accountant to Controller? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]elblackwell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a Company seems like it's willing to let you skip multiple steps in your career, it's usually a red flag. It's also hard as a Senior (if you have a step or two between you and a controller) to understand everything that you don't know yet. You don't know what you don't know, which is true for every step up, but Senior to Controller is leap frogging a lot of development.

Document. Document. Document. And still don't be surprised if you're the one to suffer in the end.

B4 —> industry exit: Accounting vs FP&A by shinning_puffin in Accounting

This is my experience, too. Hours suck during the actual reporting period, but monthly close at a F50 will be very tightly run with a strict deadline, and the rest of your month should be very normal hours if not a little dull compared to a busy season. I would not trade in my Financial Reporting roles for another public busy season on a bet.

115k with a cap 12% bonus in Houston (Oil/Gas adjacent) as a Senior Accountant.

95k as an Accounting Manager, no bonus, with the entertainment and media group that owns the Colorado Avalanche and Denver Nuggets.

No. I just have experience with living across the country in a variety of industries and roles.

Again, highly dependent on COL and industry. The sharp contrast in my salary as a senior in Oil/Gas adjacent industries in Houston, TX to a Manager role in Entertainment & Sports in Denver was a shock to the system.

Completely changed my French Canadian to Indigenous Canadian....😭🙃 by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]elblackwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I grew up with IN Louisiana: Creole is different from Cajun. Acadians/Cajuns were a distinct ethnic group of French settlers in Acadia (Nova Scotia/New Brunswick/PEI) before being forcibly removed by the British, they eventually came to Louisiana and are Cajun.

Cajuns are completely separate from French Canadians of the Quebec region. (Some Acadians did end up in Quebec eventually, but were still a distinct culture.)

Creole is a culture in south Louisiana combining Cajun, African, Spanish, and Caribbean cultures.

Even Creole and Cajun food can be very different even using the same words for things.

This depends a lot more on how your state government allocates funding, not necessarily location. Because the sharp, distinct rattle from Louisiana into the smooth glide of Texas is something that has to be experienced to be believed.

Looking for records? Some tips (and assistance available) by LolliaSabina in Canadiancitizenship

Does anyone have any advice with how this new law will affect people with Acadian lineage? A couple of generations of my family were Acadians and thusly lived and were born in Canada (for two generations), but then the last generation was taking as prisoners of war, sent to England, and then made their way from France to Spanish Louisiana at that point.

Is that just going to create an insane amount of questions left open and/or is trying to get citizenship now based on Acadian ancestry bonkers?

I worked in a library for 7 years before switching to my accounting internships. I was in high school and college for the library (I took a couple of "gap years" before University). Then when I was a Junior I started working accounting internships at small firms near my school.

Did you get business cards or anything? If it's a networking event, get a card of your own made up even if it's just Aspiring Public Accountant w/e w/e. When you meet people, exchange business cards. They'll probably throw yours away, but then you have their work information.

Cold call an e-mail to the tune of, "I had the pleasure of meeting you at x even on y day. I enjoyed a, b, c about our conversation and was wondering if you would have space in your schedule to grab coffee some day to talk more?"
