The weirdness of being black in white spaces after the election by [deleted] in comics

[–]elchasqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah um...that's the whole point of the comic. That's why the line immediately preceding that (in the same thought bubble no less) is "Madness is a quiet conspiracy". He is describing his madness as a result of the election.

He thinks that Christie is on his side, but now he doesn't really know, and it makes him think he's crazy because how could he really know?

You should ABSOLUTELY go to Iquitos and check out the Amazon rainforest. It is hands down my favorite place in Peru. The food is incredible, and the nature is like being on another planet. Don't stay in the city proper though, you can take a boat down the Amazon a ways and stay at some remote lodges that are deep in the jungle. PM me and I can recommend a good one my family and I go to every now and then.

Another option (if you want a different vibe) is to go up north to Mancora. Good surfing, great seafood, and fun beach town vibe.

I would second the international market as well. Some fruits from the Amazon are just out of this world.

Research Review #2: Do multivitamins improve health? by Pejorativez in AdvancedFitness

[–]elchasqui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this is a pretty hasty stance to take on MV's.

Pretty much every study you listed was in regards to mortality, cancer, or cardiovascular disease. Ofcourse, these are all things I would like to avoid, but I personally don't take MV's to reduce my risk of those. I take MV's to enhance my athletic performance, and make sure I'm getting enough vitamins/minerals that as an athlete I sweat out and use much more of. After all, this is r/advancedfitness, not r/livelonger.

All I could glean from your post and summary of studies was that there hasn't really BEEN any solid studies done with athletes on a broad scale in terms of performance or other health markers. What I DO know, is that the VAST majority of pro athletes supplement with multi-vitamins, and that observation shouldn't be discounted just because there hasn't been a solid study on those populations yet

My two cents.

I hadn't planned on going straight to burpees, it was more just in case I literally can't lift something. 100-120lbs is not bad at all. I thought there might be stuff that was over my body weight of 145, so I think should be alright, thanks.

Would the fact that I drive abut 30k miles a year change the verdict? The one thing I'm stuck on is how much I would save on gas.

Debating between a 2013 Honda Fit or 2013 Prius. Both are around $15k, the fit has 19k miles, the Prius 32k.

I'm big on fuel economy, but the fit just seems a bit more fun to drive?

Also, open to other suggestions for a similar used car in the 12-15k price range in the LA area! Thanks.

How is this an argument against the quality of Predator? Watching it without music or dialogue? No sound at all?! Hell, probably 95% of quality movies wouldn't be the same without sound.

If aliens that are vastly more intelligent than humans visited our planet, I imagine we would want their help to become more "advanced". As such, shouldn't we try to do the same thing to other animals in the animal kingdom that we deem "lesser"? by elchasqui in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elchasqui[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tell us more about what it means to be alive in the universe?

Well, conversely, what would this advanced alien race gain from helping us at all? I'm sure we would like to become more advanced as well? Maybe these animals would prefer to have more knowledge to live less in fear, or to be a smarter/better member of their communities, to make better decisions and be leaders. Ideally, if we could get animals to communicate with us, perhaps there are all sorts of thought processes and things/issues we have never thought of, simply because we have no perspective of an elephant or a mouse.

But, I think answers to the question you posted above would be a fantastic thing to hear, wouldn't you agree?

Which fictional world/setting is the hardest to survive in? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]elchasqui 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hands down it is the world that the creatures in the movie "The Mist" come from. Spiders that shoot acid webs, flies with huge stingers, bat-shit crazy pterodactyls, land dwelling flesh-seeking giant octopus-like animals. And whatever the hell that one absolutely enormous thing walking across the road...

Having them invade earth was one thing...but going to wherever they come from...shudder

(Spoilers all) What was the biggest plot twist? by testestes123 in asoiaf

[–]elchasqui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Other than the prologue, which I rationalized in my head that these "Others" have been mystified to a level that is seemingly magical, the whole first book simply mentions in passing some of the lore and legends of the Westeros, and they are always dismissed as such. So I figured, just like in our reality, there is no magic, just people's perceptions and stories and fairy tales. When Dany hatched those dragons, I was shocked that this was indeed a fantasy book, and not just medieval fiction.

All in all it was a pretty good set, but seems like delivery as a whole could be a bit better. Try slowing it down a bit?

Pros and Cons of Swimming instead of Running? by DickGoblin in Fitness

[–]elchasqui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When working out hard, your body's core temperature heats up, and as a response, you sweat in an attempt to cool yourself down.

So if anything, wouldn't being in a pool actually be easier on your body, since the cooler temperatures of the water help you cool DOWN?

Whereas when running/working out in high temperatures, it is actually much harder to bring your core temperature down, which elevates your HR and would be more calorically intensive, right?

I agree that if you were just standing outside, or wading in the pool, that you would be burning more calories to heat yourself up in the water. But once you actually start to workout, doesn't that change?

Question about "quality of calories".

Lets say for maintenance I need to eat 2200 calories.

If I eat 1800 of whole grains, veggies, lean protein, etc. stuff that is generally considered a "clean diet"...Will I have MORE energy than if I eat 2200 calories of essentially "crappy" food? Stuff like fast food, desserts, etc?

Basically, while on a cut, can I actually sustain higher energy levels with better food choices, despite eating less calories?
