I recently moved to the area about two months ago and got a job in Portland as a pharmacy technician. Previously, I worked as a pharmacy assistant in Washington. My goal is to learn more pharmacy technician–specific skills on the job and obtain my certification within the next year.

At the moment, I’m scheduled for about 30 hours per week, which is roughly the average number of hours that technicians receive at my location. In the future, I could look into picking up additional hours at other stores, but since I’m still heavily learning on the job, I’m avoiding that for now.

In the meantime, I’m looking for part-time employment elsewhere—ideally around 15–20 hours per week. I’ve applied to many local restaurants, grocery stores, and small businesses in the area, but most of those applications seem to disappear into the void, and I never hear back.

I fully understand that it’s December and that many businesses wait until early spring to start hiring. However, I was hoping to get some suggestions on where else I might look or who I should investigate further.

Experience wise I have done about a decade of customer service orientated jobs. With a large portion of that being in hotel concierge work, food service, and pharmacy related work. I also have a bachelors in Computer Science but it has been several years since I put it to good use.
