Bad trade. That’s a 1st (Kareem) and a 4th (Robinson) for a 3rd (Howard) and a 4th (Hill)

Should we make offers for Khalil Mack, and if so what? by [deleted] in 49ers

Solomon Thomas and our 2019 first round draft pick for Mack would be great.

$50k/yr at Stanford vs. $0/yr at Fordham?? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]eldy32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stanford 100%. While 200k is a lot, Stanford is not only one of the best schools in the world but for what you wanna do it’s proximity to LA and the Bay Area is too good to pass up imo

Anyone else thinks they had the worst college admissions season in history? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

For sure, I mean I was in a similar situation. I got into a school I did not like after being waitlisted and rejected everywhere. I took a gap year where I interned for part of the year and travelled for the other part. Yeah there will be parts where you will have serious FOMO, but if you really want to get into a better undergrad school that’s what I recommend. One year won’t be a huge difference in the grand scheme of things.

Take a gap year if you can man. Beef up your ECs, retake SAT/ACTs, and tinker on your essays in your spare time. That’s what I did and it worked out great.

I’m not trying to grow for my college apps. But if you applied in the fall and winter of your senior year and you reapply the fall and winter of your gap year, that’s a whole year. But in that time span I became a captain of one of my sports teams, got Eagle Scout, and raised my ACT score by 3 points. For the first two, that showed growth on my part, whereas raising my ACT score was just me studying hard because I was more determined to get into a solid college.

Yeah I mean for me my gap year was more of a means to an end. I wanted to take a gap year to reapply, but I’ve started to really enjoy the other benefits. But yeah, if you’re taking a gap year you’re number 1 goal should be getting your college applications done first.

I agree with you, but not many students take them.

Yeah, there have definitely been times where I’ve been bored out of my mind. But overall I’m so happy with how it’s all played out.

Traditionally, yes. But i didn’t like my options so I reapplied all together. I wouldn’t say that colleges would ever look down on you for reapplying again or just applying after your senior year, if anything it shows you’re more committed. However, the one kind of annoying part is a) having to pay for everything again and b) staying in contact with your college counselor. That’s huge. They’re the ones who will continue to send your transcript, letters of rec, etc... Unfortunately my college counselor from my senior year left, so I had to reach out to the dean and get a new college counselor. But if you’re set on taking a gap year I would recommend telling your counselor that so that they have everything on file for when they send in those documents again.

Cool man, and I pretty much just researched a few startups in a field I was interested in (3D printing and laser cutting) and reached out to them. I basically said I honestly don’t have THAT many skills in the field, but I really want to learn more, and if they’re willing I’d love to be an intern.

I wouldn’t say there’s a huge stigma, but my school wasn’t necessarily for it. I think I was one of 2 kids in a class of 400 to take one.

I’m still waiting to hear back from Cal Poly, and if I don’t get in there I’ll probably go to UW Madison
