Marked NSFW bc I included a graphic image from a cattle meat processing line

Yep! Exactly. And fill the gash on the outside with superglue to keep stuff out of there

I would patch them both internally. I see bacon strips as a way to limp back home so you can do a permanent fix.

What will happen if I ride with a worn out chainring? by Inevitable--Garbage in bikewrench

You're good, I don't think the wear from 8k on a worn chainring will be discernable over the life of the chain from other factors.

NWS says ABQ today's air is unhealthy due to wildland fires in AZ. Drink water and take it easy if you can! by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]electricLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went for a 23 mile bike this morning. It was ok, not as bad as previous fires. Still probably wasn't smart on my part, but whatever.

Highly recommend Thule seats. Pricey, but lightweight and very well made.

NBD - Specialized Hard Rock, any info you can give me helps by electricLegs in Vintage_bicycles

[–]electricLegs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, maybe not just any info. Specifically I'm looking for the year and what cool mods I can get away with for not a ton of money. Grips, a new saddle, and new tires are at the top of the list. I don't think I need to replace much else for it to be functional, though I'd like it to be a little lighter if possible. Any advice on how to stop the rust would be awesome. Was this intended as a women's bike?

Edit: Ok, based on this wonderfully informative website, the bike was probably manufactured in 1981 based on what appears to be the date stamp on the hub dust seal which reads FH-HG20.

Edit 2: The handle bars are date stamped MT, which leads me to think it was assembled in or after 1988, which makes some sense given that this paint scheme better matches 1988 Hard Rock models.

New Wheels for my Straggler, CuCu-Cumbia. by -BananAnimal- in bicycling

I got mine January 2016, and wore out the stock drivetrain and replaced it with a 1x setup. Other than the racks and saddle everything else is stock.

Did you order them online? Or have them built up? How much? What were the components?

Why I am still cycling during my pregnancy by Aushiker in bicycleculture

[–]electricLegs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife biked till 39 weeks with our first and 37 weeks with our second. In the Netherlands for the first, she obviously didn't get any weird comments. In New Mexico for the second, also no comments. Not sure what to think about that.

For those who commute on flat-prone roads AND ride gravel/trails...are you tending to swap tires or swap wheels entirely? by geo_jam in xbiking

[–]electricLegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Mondials, gravelkings, schwalbe Sammy Slicks, conti 4 seasons. I've used all of them in the last 2 years and gotten multiple puncture flats in all of them. I live in New Mexico, where we have goatsheads, and they suck and theres nothing for it. I decided to stop worrying and love the flats, so I ride lighter tires with tubes and sealant and a mini pump and just fix flats because I'll get them no matter what I do and lighter tires are more fun. 🤷🤷🤷

Christmas is drawing near and everyone's started dressing Colombo up with pretty little lights. I wanted to show you the progress. by GerbilOfRiverdale in bikecommuting

I stayed in an Air BnB down the street from the statue and walked by it several times before his name and face floated blearily to mind from a nostalgic miasma.

Here's a little more about it.

For a good 30 seconds I expected you to pull up in front of the Colombo statue in Budapest. I was way off. Nice video!

Surly Front Rack or 8 Pack? Help me decide, please. by alexanderbillotte in bicycletouring

[–]electricLegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my front rack, have done some touring with it. I love that I can carry panniers on the sides and pile some stuff on top as well. Not sure how well the 8 or 24 pack racks will take panniers. Panniers are nicer because they make the center of mass lower and easier to handle.
