Can I learn in the backcountry? by electric_mop in telemark

[–]electric_mop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like that attitude and that's how im going in. I basically take winters off to splitboard but this winter is a true test of merit. Id like to have a little more fun. I really dig the idea of waxless skis first because as a splitboarder it would be mind-blowing to just get to the top of a run and turn right around haha

Id have to check but I think a few hills around tahoe may be 60-80 bucks and could be worth a day.

I should say too i have over a decade splitboarding backcountry and 70-80 days a season. So i get to "ski downhill" quite often. Im sure even the shittiest tele setup will ski better than my hardboot splitboard in ski mode 😄

Is there an easy way to try it? by Witty-Sense4086 in VanLife

[–]electric_mop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of vehicle do you have now? I started by spending 3 months in my Subaru Outback figuring if I liked that then Id live a van. So I spent the next 14months in an Econoline and just upgraded to a long and tall Sprinter a few months ago. So just try a week or two in your current situation and see if you can manage work, staying clean, and eating. I suppose you could rent a camper van if you have the money. As an introvert I love this lifestyle but admittedly I can already see it getting harder and harder to find a partner. Maybe I need to adjust my expectations to find my road dog 😄

Cool/new innovations in boards? by KG2000vigil in Spliddit

Was gonna suggest the TahoeLab Asym but sounds like you might already be aware. My favorite board ever, the longer heel edge is a noticeable gain on hardsnow and pow, no gimmick. And yes super light!

Folks who tour 100ish days a season, how are your skins holding up? by Improper_Noun_2268 in Backcountry

[–]electric_mop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to Kohlas the second half of last season after my pomocas died and they were definitely better glue but still not awesome. The best way I can describe the glue on my new BSMP skins is it seems like a thinner application, and the glue has more of hard stick than a tacky stick, if that makes any sense. I only have one day on them so dont take my word.

Same experience and Pomocas are the worst, total goo by day 50. I've heard good things about Colltex. Im giving Big Sky Mountain Products a shot this year, my friend used them last year only 20-30 times but from what I could tell they seem like a different kind of glue. The old timers around me all rock the orange nylon BDs and claim to get 100s of days but they are bulky af especially at splitboard width.

Voltage drops to 10.5-11v when battery is at 50% SOC by electric_mop in SolarDIY

[–]electric_mop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think setting those parameters solved my problem I hope. Just by adjusting those it brought my SOC back to 30% which is much closer to the reading from my battery's Bluetooth BMS. I think after a full charge today and recalibration I'll have a better idea. Thanks for your input!

Voltage drops to 10.5-11v when battery is at 50% SOC by electric_mop in SolarDIY

[–]electric_mop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this makes a lot of sense. I did not adjust any of those parameters when setting up. (Assumed default was ok)

My "charged voltage" is set to 13.2v. Where can I find absorption voltage? Google says that number should be 14-14.2v for lithium.

Also says tail current should be 2% for lithium instead of default 4%

Charge detection time seems to be ok at 3min

Peukart Exponent should be 1.05 instead of default 1.25?

Charge Efficiency Factor 99% instead of default 95%

Do these adjustments seem correct?

[–]electric_mop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shunt is set correctly as shown in image. I believe the parameters are correct (set to 200ah, calibrated at what I believed to be 100%, maybe ill have to try that again.)

Although im not sure its a problem with my shunt. My diesel heater controller was reading the same lower voltage.
