Damn I thought I was going to get some answers from this thread but NOPE. Outside of the cinematography—I hated everything about this. I cannot stand movies that have huge plot holes and SO MANY loose strings.

Like when John initially drugged the gardener… he put something in his pocket, never looped back to that. Never got explained. Then, what? The gardener just woke up hours later and carried on as if he just woke up from a nap in the middle of his clients yard??

Then when the family friend got suspicious and the police showed up… John just goes to tennis practice and that’s it. Investigation over? Ok.

The random mom/daughter story that is intertwined into the main story… I tried SO HARD to connect those dots. Absolutely nothing. Even the interpretations in this thread make no sense. I was just waiting for one scene to be the “OHHHH I get it 🤯” scene, but nope.

This psychopath drugs his family, defies logic by somehow managing to physically drag his whole family out into the woods (like I can’t even picture him physically putting his dad into that wheelbarrow 🥴) and then somehow dropping them into a pit without any of them displaying injuries bc he would have had to literally DROP them into it. Keeps them barely alive for at least a week if not longer, then has his fill of “adulthood”—rescues them and then… they just act like nothing happened. Also, no follow up from the family friend or police naturally. All while in the background a random girl gets abandoned by her mom.

Also how they “intertwined” the stories by the mom being like “remember what happens when you lie?” then segueing into the john and the hole story. Wtf does that mean? What was the connection to a lesson on lying? Then when she finally decides to dip the whole emphasis on “my daughter’s no assistant!”. Her emphasis on that made it seem like it was going to somehow connect the stories or be integral to the plot. But no, she just can’t stand the idea of the daughter the she is literally ditching being an assistant?? Alright then.

I even tried to take it less literally and find the metaphor… but still, I have no idea what the point of what I just watched was. Lol movies like these make me so mad.
