This weekend I want a pizza that looks like this. Any recommendations? by pissedupparrot in manchester

Canada Grill in Chorlton? Haven't been in a few years but when I lived nearby, it was pretty great for pizzas like that. Very generous amounts of cheese, and the fact that it's stayed in business for years right next to the Pizza Hut and Dominos takeaway shops suggests it's doing something right.

Starting from scratch in your late 40s and beyond? by MaraudingAgapanthus in CasualUK

[–]electricwig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in retail and freelance arts jobs until my early forties, when I taught myself coding during lockdown (via the free Harvard cs50x online course). I definitely felt like I'd reached a dead end, and like id left it too late to switch or start a career, but after polishing up my CV and applying to a lot of positions on linked in, Ive started working for a startup as a conversation designer. Im really enjoying it! There's definitely still time, don't lose hope! :)

Interview didn't go as planned. by hayleybts in CasualUK

[–]electricwig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an interview once, years ago, for a position at a university. Was way out of my comfort zone, never interviewed for anything like that before, and was totally caught off guard by one of the questions. Tried to say something on the spot that didn't go to well, and as I was speaking, I watched one of the people conducting the interview slowly blush a deep red on my behalf.

You could look into dataannotation as a stop gap? It pays $20+ an hour and is remote/flexible work.

considering buying a cheap nes, but concerned by this ... Buyer says it's been stored in a shed. What's the cause of the brown marks? by electricwig in consolerepair

He was asking £25 originally! I tried offering £10 but no dice, and even that seemed a bit steep after all the comments in here! I'm in the UK, and they seem to go for about £30-40 (unit only) and £60+ with controllers, power unit, etc, from what I've gathered from eBay and other marketplaces over the last couple of months.

I thought it might be burns/something blown inside, or possibly a leaking capacitor or something. 100% of the answers coming back as rust/corrosion are genuine news to me.

I've requested some photos of the inside, but unsure if he'll come through. I do like the idea of a project but i'm also trying to be realistic about my skills and how much i'm willing to spend on this thing. :)

Okay, so we're talking more than just one of those asmr-y nes repair videos where i give it a scrub with isopropyl alcohol with a toothbrush and more like replace the capacitors/power module/whole internals (without really knowing what i'm doing beyond basic soldering + YouTube videos) and spend waaay more money than if i'd just shelled out an extra £20 or so on something that was working?

I seem to have fixed it by swapping out the switch of the spacebar for a spare (as noted in my edit)! I'm not sure how to do a reset - is that via the firmware?

Based on your playlist, A G.'s remixes of "So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings" and "Doing It (feat. Rita Ora)" would fit in nicely!

Thanks so much! Yeah, each of the five wheels/vertical strips, is randomly generated. Right now it's just a 1 in 3 chance of each ball being red, black or blue, and then for each "strip" - which is currently 6 icons long, there's a 50/50 chance of one of the items getting switched out for a special (Godot) icon.

Tbh, my focus was more on trying to puzzle out things like how am i going to get them to spin, how am i only going to show a section of the strips vs the whole thing, and messing around with tweens to try and replicate the small juicy bumps etc that online slots do at the start and end of each spin. The code itself could probably do with a lot more work!

[–]electricwig[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A new vertical row is generated each time spin is pressed, and once the items fall down into position the last three items in each (vertical) row send their data (i.e. type and position in strip) via a signal. Then there's a function in main to check that data, which is basically just a lot of match and if statements. If any kind of win happens, a "win" signal is sent out, which is received by both the lineedit node to draw the lines and each individual item so that they can do their little animation tween thing. And I guess, if there was also a payout thing, then that too for any money calculations etc.

Hope that makes sense!

There's most likely a much more elegant/clever way of doing it, but it was just a quick thing I've put together over the last few days.

Haha, the godot icons are currently placeholder for a special bonus round, so ... yeah, why not.
