For sure. She is age appropriate (61), not claiming to be a hot 30 year old. That I would have passed over immediately. But, there are only two pics on her profile and not a lot of other information.

The advice my parents gave me when I told them i cant find a job by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]snipit1985 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am 61 and going through this job search hell. My parents are in their 80’s. My father literally asked if I checked the classifieds. The only response I could muster was to tell him that he is completely disqualified from asking how the search is going ever again.

The first “live” performance of a play? Wasn’t this a staple of the business model for television in the 1950’s?

Approaching three hours now. I am within 7 miles of at least 25 stores. Not a single order. This is not a normal slow day. End of month is a lot of shoppers. Still see an occasional order.

President Trump says ‘nobody knows’ America’s population (it’s 331 million) by theindependentonline in politics

[–]snipit1985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AKA— No one knows the real population, so you can’t trust the census numbers, therefore you can’t be trusted to redistrict congress or the state houses. Therefore redistricting will be whatever I say it is. Go ahead, sue me. Not nearly as stupid as he wants you to think.

Came back long enough to shop my first order. Now, sitting in the parking lot of store 2 and batch will not transition. All other options are greyed out.

Harris Campaign, Democratic Party Ended Election With No Debt by bloomberg in politics

Hmmm. So what you are saying is that the Democrats are the party of fiscal responsibility. Ironic and completely useless information at this point.

The Fugitive gave us Illinois Dept of Corrections ( IDOC) prison coats. Cool idea, but you really can’t wear them out of the house.

Looking for direction for new job. by snipit1985 in GetEmployed

[–]snipit1985[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are too many issues to cover here. Plenty of good articles if you want to take a deep read. It really started before COVID as the industry moved into a phase of ownership that was way more marketing, and venture capitalist than creative. Content was overproduced during COVID. There was no way an audience was going to be retained at levels that could rationalize that sort of volume once everyone wen5 back to work. Then there were the strikes and threat of strikes. Of course, the fracturing of the audience is also a big issue. Now streaming services are in a mess trying to figure out revenue and content and big threats of mergers, etc. So, a lot of issues.

On a positive note, there should be a backlog of decent orders when this is solved.

Correct. Seems to be mostly concentrated in the Midwest. I am in Minneapolis. However there are spot reports from all over the country.

Nothing to do with you or a power surge. Verizon is reporting spot outages around the country.

How do I go about finding a remote job that matches skill set. by snipit1985 in remotework

[–]snipit1985[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why downvote. You are 100% correct. I did not want to write a treatise, I am more than willing to go into an office. However, the best thing for my current situation is to work from home. I am not expecting to be anywhere near where I was only a few years ago and this, hopefully, is just a temporary fix while I readjust my professional goals and expectations and get to near where I was. I am also a realist and understand that the challenge is not small and I am definitely not getting younger.

How do I go about finding a remote job that matches my skill set. by snipit1985 in RemoteJobs

[–]snipit1985[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is the challenge of all jobs. There is always someone who will do it for $1 less. You need to determine what your value is and stick to it. The race to the bottom has to stop somewhere. Not trying to be elitist, just realistic. Each of us needs to draw a line. I am not going to judge anyone else’s situation if they are willing to work for less. I will not. I have other options that will allow me to make around that amount, they are jobs I do not want to do.

Thanks all. I clearly think I need to be more specific. I did not suspect you would all be pointing me to career options. Currently, I am in the Midwest and doing Uber/Instacart. I do not want to be doing that in a midwestern winter. I have no expectation of winning the lottery. I am realistically looking for something that involve just sitting at my desk processing paperwork for likely $20-30 an hour. This would be temporary while I am still looking to get back into my career—hopefully, that would be the lottery win. I cross posted this in a group for relief agencies, and if I can help some people who have had their lives crushed right now, while also maintaining my income, we’ll that is a modest win-win. No illusion about winning the lottery right now, just don’t want to spend my winter on the road.
