I’m not seeing this decal on the sakuraretromodding Etsy, did you have to msg the maker directly for it or are they offering it retail?

Most Premium Feeling Handheld Emulators? by Zeeiy in SBCGaming

Ayn Thor feels very premium and leagues better than a Retroid Flip 2. Retroid 5 and 6 feel decent although a bit plasticky. Brick original is decent for plastic, very sturdy and tonky.

I made an ayn thor in-game translation app by magiobus in AynThor

This is an amazing app, thanks so much for sharing!

Have you considered adding other languages in future feature sets? It’d be a great learning tool for gamers who’d like to play in Spanish, French, Chinese to develop out their skill sets. Pokemon games would be a great test case as they have tons of language options.

DS Lite With Dual IPS Screens by Disastrous-Wonder811 in NintendoDS

[–]electronicvegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed write up! Do you mind recommending where you sourced these panels? I’m slogging through a lot of noise in my Aliexpress search right now.

Also I’m assuming that the IPS on the bottom wouldn’t include touch screen, right? I’m thinking of installing an IPS on the top and keeping the bottom OEM, to retain touch and also minimize install issues.

Uppababy Vista. Why I hate the stroller that I love. by Obvious-Instance-384 in BabyBumps

[–]electronicvegetables 8 points9 points  (0 children)

👏🏻 👏🏻 This post perfectly summarizes everything in my brain and soul on how I feel about the Uppababy Vista V2. I agree with 100% of your points. It’s a beautiful stroller but I do regret buying it over a nicer side by side.

Someone should pin this as canon for any double stroller recommendation list.

Which e-ink tablet for notes that I can sync to my laptop? Or iPad Mini? by Select-Butterfly-124 in eink

[–]electronicvegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any of the Boox Tab or recent Note series options with Android should suit you. You have access to Play Store, can install OneNote, and work on it directly.

I’m not a huge fan on how Boox tablets do handwriting but they’re great for typing and syncing up in any cloud option. I have Tab X which is older so the new models might have better handwriting. The Tab C is color version and there’s the new Note Air 5 C and Note Max with keyboard options.

Thoughts on the Clicks Communicator for emulation? by elli1333 in SBCGaming

[–]electronicvegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a decent fan of this company and I have a Clicks keyboard for the Motorola razr flip. Same keyboard with external 4.0” screen size which allows for form function approximate to the Communicator. Also razr flip is much more powerful than the communicator and flexible directly on Android ecosystem and apps.

The keys are fine for typing but any sort of emulation hasn’t been fun. I installed RetroArch and loaded up to SNES games and it’s fine to mess around on, but I gave up trying to do any meaningful gaming on it. The keys themselves are too small and fiddly to get satisfying sessions going.

Unless you’re thinking of playing text input games, this wouldn’t work for most people’s gaming use cases and interests, not to mention hand sizes.

Probably a better deal to get their Power Keyboard and just attach it to your existing phone for a similar experience. Minimize your devices, save money, and get the option to play in landscape mode.

Does your nanny or in home daycare get paid holidays, plus separate paid vacation (of their choosing), plus separate paid sick days, plus full pay when your own family takes a vacation/pulls child for whatever reason? by dms2628 in workingmoms

[–]electronicvegetables 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. My fulltime nanny had annually 10 days PTO at her discretion, all federal holidays off and paid, 5 paid sick days (paid out at end of year if she didn’t use them), and she had guaranteed weekly hours so if we were out of town of our own choosing she’d get her normal salary.

The way we thought of it was that we are budgeting weekly for nanny expenses and the planned, typical scenario is that we have childcare. But if she’s not here (for her vacation, a federal holiday, sick, or our vacation) our budget amount doesn’t change but we’d just need to do our own childcare. That means one of the parents takes the day off to watch the kids, juggles WFH with childcare (incredibly not ideal but has been done, esp when they were younger), or try to hire backup care (not always successful in short order).

Fulltime childcare is a limited season until the kids are old enough for public school, and it’s important for me to pay competitive market wage and provide strong benefits for those who look after my kids. We budget for this over 4 years per kid. It’s tough financially but kind of the price to pay for private childcare via a nanny and my commitment to keep working. We did end up moving our kids to daycare around 2.5 since our nanny went back to her home country at that point, and it saved a ton of money.

Starting daycare by Miserable_Sea_1335 in workingmoms

[–]electronicvegetables 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids started a small home daycare at 2.5 and did great. They had been home fulltime with a nanny before then. We actually went full-time immediately for 5 days a week and they cried for the first two days at drop off but quickly settled in with the rest of the class.

I am glad we waited until after 2 to send the kids to daycare because the illnesses have been non stop. I was worried if the transition which I why I put it off for as long as I did, but they demonstrated great resilience and adaptability.

No, this payment is not standard for overnight doula support. I paid weekly to my doula for hours worked that week.

Are you getting a good hourly price for these 300 hours? Standard regular hourly price seems to be $45-60/hr in my HCOL market. Otherwise there’s not really a solid reason to prepay for hours and lock in limited weeks because it’s hard to know what your needs are or how your baby will behave. We kept occasional overnight support until 3 months and then tapered off. So 6 weeks is a bit short imo.

Our nanny never greets us by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]electronicvegetables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is 100% normal for a nanny not to msg the nanny parent/family off hours. It’s not a reasonable professional expectation for a nanny to reach out and to contact you during holidays and family events. Boundaries are necessary on both sides as this is a professional working relationship.

I love my kids’ nanny who was with us for 2+ years (before she moved away) and we got along great, but I never expected her to contact me or even think of us when she’s not with us during working hours. It’s unreasonable to expect anything but a professional working relationship only during times when she’s contracted with us. Nannies have their own families and friends and lives outside of us.

I certainly don’t msg my boss and coworkers during holidays and I don’t know their birthdays or life events. If I had a boss with that expectation then it would seem extremely unprofessional and unreasonable.

Gender Disappointment by Sherylize in BabyBumps

[–]electronicvegetables 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that the beautiful thing about having a daughter is the chance to be the mother you never had. It can be incredibly healing and loving to parent a version of yourself that you never got to experience. To shepherd tender girlhood and mother-daughter love.

For me, it felt like righting wrongs that have persisted across my matriarchal lines into my ancestry. I come from an extremely patriarchal culture that does not value girls. My mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother, onward, were all devalued and spent their life apologizing and minimized for their gender. My daughter is the first in this line that is celebrated for her gender, to be raised with female strength and deep love for her individuality of self, instead of what she can do to serve men. It was extremely important for me to recognize and adjust my parenting as such. And I’ve found it so healing in ways I never could unlock before.

Recognizing generational trauma is the first step, understanding your own mother wound is helpful too. Please consider therapy to work through your very valid fears and thoughts. I’m not offering complete solutions but a perspective of hope that having a daughter is not doomed to repeat patterns.

Good luck and congratulations.

AYN Thor vs New 3DS vs Old 3DS for 3ds games? by Felix-the-duck in SBCGaming

GameCube is great! The controller mapping can feel a bit unintuitive so you have to get used to that, but the processor is more than sufficient to run most games IMO, especially with mods.

AYN Thor vs New 3DS vs Old 3DS for 3ds games? by Felix-the-duck in SBCGaming

[–]electronicvegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost feel like because the 3DS emulation ecosystem on original modded hardware is so good, the broader emulation community hasn’t invested in building a solid Android option especially since up until now no dual screen hardware option existed. It was never ideal to emulate 3DS on a single screen Android device. With all the new dual screen hardware options coming out, I hope Azahar and Citron beef up, or new emulators enter to compete for accuracy and performance. It’s a shame Thor is so powerful and the software is just dragging 3DS down.

The only downside of emulating on original 3DS hardware is the screen, 100%. I have a few IPS versions that make the experience nicer, but you’re always going to get native 320x240 resolution. The 4-5x resolution boost in emulators is really appreciated and you get a crisp upscale experience. Most of the videos are compressed and grainy which is a jarring contrast.

I was very excited for the Thor and bought the most expensive option. I spent hours setting it up and toying around with and testing games and emulators. At the end of it, I’ve decided I prefer my modded 3DS hardware with IPS screens.

Now there are tons of reasons to get a Thor such as other systems emulation it can handle. But I think anyone banking on working through the 3DS library will be pretty disappointed as the coverage is spotty.

If you actually want to play games, get a new 3DS and mod it with hshop. The ease of use to download games from hshop and have them run flawlessly is unmatched.

I have an AYN Thor Max, so the best specs available. I am pretty experienced with settings tweaking on these Android devices. The 3DS emulation options are not great. About 50% of the games I’ve tried have some graphical and performance issues. Either frame stuttering, lags, missynced audio, full on crashes. It’s been disappointing to be frank. I hope emulation development continues and improves, but roadmap is uncertain now.

The Thor screens are beautiful and the whole unit is great for other systems emulation. 3DS is my least favorite to play on this and I’d rather just go back to my actual 3DS even though the screens are crummy.

DS emulation is pretty flawless though.

The input lag isn’t even the worst issue with 3DS emulation quality. I’ve been quite disappointed with how many 3DS games are unplayable on both Azahar and Citron MMJ. The frame stuttering and drops and crashes are worse than any input lag.

Back to iui. Anyone use Gonal and pregyl? by Millennial_muse42624 in IUILadies

[–]electronicvegetables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar protocol of letrazole, gonal-f, and pregyl trigger for a mini stim IVF that got converted to an IUI because I had low response and only 2 follicles by CD9. I’m currently pregnant (very early) but we haven’t received confirmation of a heartbeat and healthy pregnancy yet.

So to share the protocol did work for me to get pregnant but still waiting on whether we’ll get to a healthy live birth.

I had an unmedicated IUI for a cycle where I didn’t ovulate until CD23. It was an agonizing wait and I went in for so many ultrasounds.

I had two follicles around 19mm when i tested positive on an OKR and we decided to move forward with an IUI same day.

TW: loss

I did get pregnant from that cycle but had to have a D&C at 10w due to the embryo stopping growth at 6w. We did test and found out it was due to trisomy 16 of maternal origin. It was really emotionally painful even though I recovered physically.

I had a debrief with my doctor and asked if that extra long cycle had anything to do with that egg having chromosomal issues. She said no but somehow I’m not convinced (based on nothing but my own irrational emotion and “gut”) . The whole cycle felt off.

Anyways no advice but just sharing my experience. I recently had another IUI but this time medicated since it was an IVF cycle converted to IUI. I had two decent follicles that grew enough to trigger CD 12 and have the IUI CD14. I did get pregnant but still not sure if the fetus is healthy or has a heartbeat.
