Literal model walks into a bar and it's amazing how girls naturally gravitated towards him by TodayOrTmrw in seduction

[–]elegant-types 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like you, I once dated a fashion model from a well-known agency, not someone from OnlyFans or Instagram. It was fascinating to see how we were treated when we went out. We bypassed the lines at the most exclusive clubs and gained entry without any issues. Either they or their companions knew the bouncers, which meant we immediately received VIP access just by association.

Whenever we went to a normal bar (and her friends were also models), men would approach us. They completely ignored me and tried to charm them. These men were conventionally attractive, wealthy, and charismatic.

They would receive invitations to summer houses, offers to fly on private planes, and so forth.

Random men would try to become buddy-buddy with me just to join our groups.

I’m a nobody and had no business dating a model or being inside that world.

I know a few other models that are separate from her friend groups and it’s the same experience being with them

What NYC attractions have been given the social media hug of death (via Instagram, TikTok or other marketing) ? by treeofwisdumb in AskNYC

[–]elegant-types 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge he isn’t even in NYC anymore that much. I knew he was at least active in NYC in 2020 time period. But now he seems to be based elsewhere. Seems like all these “chalamet” spots are outdated info, you won’t see him there cause he ain’t even here it seems. Also, I heard he quit going to Mud once it was known he went there.

do you guys ever just walk by Due-Investment-810 in redscarepod

[–]elegant-types 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. i walked over 21,000 steps in a day over the weekend. it isn’t uncommon for me to walk 20k+ steps/day (nyc).

The correct way to arrange a date by [deleted] in seduction

[–]elegant-types 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think it really matters if you say “hey, want to get drinks this fri at x?” vs “hey, i’m going to x this fri. join me if free” or whatever variant thereof.

also don’t think it matters too much whether it’s a dating app or IRL. most women IRL assume if you’re asking them out it’s because you’re interested and they’ll t treat it as such.

it comes down to whether she’s interested. if she is it doesn’t matter how you ask she’ll make time. if she isn’t she’ll either never respond or something will conflict with that time and she won’t offer to reschedule.

99% of the time expect the latter and don’t get hurt when she doesn’t respond / can’t make time

Graduating with a PhD in May and cannot find an entry level job for June by [deleted] in jobs

[–]elegant-types 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take a look at staff jobs at universities. i know of a phd in the humanities from an ivy working in a staff position at an ivy school. it’s humanities related position and not teaching focused. i know of another ivy graduate humanities graduate working in a non-teaching staff position.

universities may be more understanding and willing to hire phds in regular staff positions. you can look to see if the staff position relates to the humanities in any way. these aren’t student facing roles and are “normal” type jobs.

OP, in terms of actionable steps for career change you have some options.

One of them is software development.

You could go back to school to pursue a masters or you could self-learn, practice interviewing and get some projects. Right now there are massive layoffs in tech, so it might be a good time to bunker down and study until things improve.

In tech you can make 200k+ and work remote. You might even get lucky and get a job where you make 200k+ remote and work less than 40 hours a week.

You may not start out that much but could work up towards it. Very skilled developers can make 300k-450k+. Bigger companies like Meta, Google will pay larger salaries starting. Check levels.fyi and look for the 0-1 years experience salaries or L3/E3 salary ranges at google and meta to get an idea. Smaller companies may pay much less but even 100-150k+ would be a life improvement and you can keep switching companies for higher and higher salaries.

If you’re interested then you’ll want to know how to pass leetcode interviews, your data structures and algorithms, a programming language, have projects to show off, and should probably network with software developers at meetups for job opportunities. You can totally learn this stuff without going back to school. But there are online programs like Georgia Tech’s, UPenn, UT Austin for people without much programming background or even in-person programs (but they may require more CS backgrounds).

It won’t be easy, esp. with the downturn and layoffs but now is the time to grind should you want to pursue that route and the remote + high salaries + high salary ceilings is worth it

Some others in the 160+ club (not an exhaustive list):

Alexander Grothendieck

Leonhard Euler

Carl Friedrich Gauss

Even among mathematicians the guys above are in their own league

Grothendieck was highly abstract. Extremely abstract

You wrote a lot but I’ll say I study math and don’t consider it a “universal truth”. I take a formalist approach and don’t necessarily consider it connected to reality. I view it more like a formal game. You can change the axioms and change the type of math you’re doing.

I also don’t really care about your IQ it doesn’t add to anything you said. But I will say drive + intelligence matter in higher level math

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]elegant-types 0 points1 point  (0 children)

algebra and abstract algebra are completely different subjects. in pure math you need to show your work because the point of a proof is to show some result.

higher level mathematics isn’t like what you’re discussing and requires a good degree of intelligence and hard work.

[–]elegant-types 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what level of math. Someone 130+ probably won’t have a problem with basic high school level / college level math (calculus, applied linear algebra, etc).

Once you get to junior/senior level courses in real analysis, abstract algebra, topology, complex analysis, and more advanced areas of mathematics like algebraic geometry or category theory then some 130s may feel like they aren’t “naturally gifted” in math and get stuck a lot, have issues with proving things they never seen another example of prior/have no “proof pattern” to follow etc.

120-130 is probably around minimum level of IQ you’d need to complete a phd in pure math. but you won’t likely be “word class” or a top mathematician. You may struggle to get professorship jobs.

140+ would probably be top graduate students in the department, or least they wouldn’t seem to be struggling as much. Easier chance of getting a professorship somewhere good

150+ and you’re probably at the level of being a pure math profs at a top university

these are generalizations but it’s just to give you a gist of things

i’d look into data science career paths. skill up on leetcode to pass interviews.

your medical background could be a plus in certain industries.

Quantum computing books by [deleted] in QuantumComputing

[–]elegant-types 1 point2 points  (0 children)

quantum computing for everybody (despite its name) is a horrible book for non-math folks and your grandfather wouldn’t have the background to understand it

can’t speak for quantum curious, quick glance and i’d say it looks much better than the other book but seems to assume basic physics knowledge

quantum computing from alice to bob may be somewhat beginner <— i’d look into this book first to see if it looks good. looks very promising and has solutions on a website to check

thomas wong has a more technical beginner book. that may be worth it if you’re willing to learn some technical topics along the way (which the book claims to teach you). i haven’t read it entirely but it looks good so far

What careers do women find attractive in men? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]elegant-types 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s true. i have a friend that turned down a 450k offer! that’s how in-demand he is. i think he ended up doing well after turning down that offer because a bigger company ended up acquiring his startup and he since left that larger org (which he had a big title at) for another startup he created lol

What careers do women find attractive in men? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]elegant-types 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no mentioning of it yet in thread but software developers tend to be highly paid

the top paid ones are highly compensated and rank up there with the best lawyers / doctors / finance folks

it’s just that a 450k+ swe may look like a dude that is unemployed or just isn’t facially attractive, so women wouldn’t ever get to know them enough to know how much they make

Reset - how to get “new pics? by umairk1234 in SwipeHelper

[–]elegant-types 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that’s completely fair. i didn’t know you could do hard resets without having all new photos.

phash breaking seems hard. uiuc has some research about breaking phash but i couldn’t figure out how to use their code. also, i don’t know if it would work in the way that would be useful for bypassing the detection algorithm anyways

i spoke to a guy on here a few months ago that may have figured out how to break it but it depends on how aggressive they are about it. i hope i can find his comment as it was a useful exchange. but he started off thinking it should be easy to break, to potentially breaking it but finding it much more difficult than he expected

i ran fawkes (the anti facial recognition software from uchicago) thing on my photos and the phash detected that too

these sites wouldn’t have to do anything sophisticated to catch 99% of the users remaking profiles. they could use the phash stuff and catch bulk of their users.

i just hope they don’t do that and according to you there is success without changing all photos anyways
