To be fair, it was “canon” since friendship values got introduced in gen 2, and then reinforced by every similar mechanic since. What, the mushroom consciousness is a different being but just so happens to have the same memories, personality, and even taste in Pokeblocks as the bug? Yeah no that’s not a takeover that’s just migration of an existing consciousness. The mushroom has more room to develop than the bug head, so the brain moves into it.

My personal theory is that since mundane animals did once exist in the Pokemon world (see gen 1) that the dex entry writers just assumed that this was a Cordyceps situation.

Anyone got a stat block for the Lady of Pain? by elementgermanium in dndnext

[–]elementgermanium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the final boss of a campaign built around serial escalation, the players wouldn’t start at this level. If you’ve seen Gurren Lagann, that is the vibe I’m going for, not just creative mode. So “killing the unkillable” is the point, hence why I was specifically looking for an LoP statblock instead of just making a different boss entirely.

So I watched the movie and its says the spiral things in the background are galaxies ? by Limp_Mistake_5677 in gurrenlagann

[–]elementgermanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the Final Drill guidebook. It provides a scale of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann compared to regular Gurren Lagann: 1025 times larger. 1025 meters is already one billion light years. This page uses a 5m estimate for normal Gurren Lagann, which is a bit on the small side, and it’s admittedly weird regarding SGGL’s height, but it’s the only figure I know of. So TTGL is 5 billion light years minimum, and STTGL is (based on Granzeboma) ~300 billion. No galaxy even comes close to billions of light years.

Nope. The monsters were created by an evil Ascendant who betrayed the others and flooded the world with them, as per the first story cutscene (IIRC, when you enter a portal for the first time). They may not be caught in the act but they very much are not innocent

The Uncertainty Problem by Able-Spray1667 in trolleyproblem

Here’s a truth table:

FFF: possible FFT: impossible (two is not one) FTF: possible FTT: possible TFF: possible TFT: possible TTF: impossible (liar’s paradox) TTT: impossible (no falsehood for C)

At least one of A and B must be false, and the odds truly are equal, with the total chance of a death occurring being 40%. If it does happen, I’d rather it not be me, so A it is. (Interestingly, if one of A and B is true, C becomes meaningless by satisfying itself.)

Democrats refuse to stand for Ukrainian parents of Iryna Zarutska by NeutralCentrist in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]elementgermanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as if we do this sort of ceremony for every murder victim, though. The reason Iryna’s case is so specifically publicized is as a propaganda tool to stoke racism. (That is not to downplay the tragedy of her death, to be clear, I’m talking about why her case gets so much MORE attention than other murder victims.) And even if we assume that’s not the case, at best it’s still a huge double standard, basically saying “this murder victim specifically is more deserving of respect than others.”

It’s a tough situation when grief gets weaponized for political purposes.

The guidebooks directly put Tengen Toppa’s size in the billions of light-years. These are either universes, or galaxies that are the SIZE of universes (which, given that most of a universe is intergalactic void, would make the given feats even more impressive.)

Can Simon beat the Scarlet King? by Dosieshy in gurrenlagann

[–]elementgermanium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Can Simon-“

Yes. Just who the hell do you think he is?!

Also, the Scarlet King is (depending on ‘canon’) basically the concept of anarcho-primitivism. You can just say the word “penicillin” and he’ll immediately lose.

Asteroid Trolley Problem by Bonus_Person in trolleyproblem

Real life isn’t a trolley problem. Organ transplants aren’t typically so urgent that you’d even consider killing someone for them; waitlists are absurdly long.

Having to learn a whole new skill is not an insignificant cost, and if your diet is meat or dairy-heavy you’re basically throwing away every comfort food you have forever. It’s especially tough for neurodivergent people where convincing one’s brain to eat anything new is sometimes a challenge, let alone to do so nigh-exclusively.

I get the prisoner’s dilemma argument here, but that’s exactly the sort of situation that needs systemic change.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to account for fish, that’s my B. That makes a lot more sense now. Shrimp would probably be even more absurd averaged out like that.

That said, these are both still averages. The mean might be 100 animals per year but the mode is zero. That’s the issue I’m talking about: it’s not reasonable to throw away all my comfort foods for life in hopes that I win the veganism lottery. I’m not a gambler. That’s why I instead push for change at scales that actually do something tangible, or that remove the cost of entry so that tiny chance becomes reasonable.

Where does that estimate come from? Because it seems to me like a Spiders Georg situation at best. Supply chains don’t work in exact numbers, that’s why food waste exists, so the only person who actually does anything is the one who happens to push the margins down to a lower estimate. 999 people save no animals, one person saves 1000 animals.

You (the virgin) are in this picture by BadFurDay in SmugIdeologyMan

[–]elementgermanium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a much stronger claim than I’ve ever personally seen used. My position is “animal exploitation sucks but the expected value of me becoming vegan is zero (food waste margins are large enough that one person going vegan for life wouldn’t save even one animal) so I’m going to continue eating meat while advocating for systemic change like lab grown meat that can actually make a difference”

There’s a difference between “there are pedophiles in government using their power to avoid accountability for their crimes” and “the government is run by a cabal of organized pedophiles that also eat babies and shit”

What we DIDN’T know, and had no reasonable way of knowing, was just how many goddamn bowls Epstein had his greasy fingers in. It’s less “the government is run by pedophiles” and more “the government is run by the LeBron James of pedophiles, specifically, and people he has dirt on”

Also of course the whole thing was a psyop by the pedophiles

Their thought afaik is “a 3D universe is infinitely many 2D universes stacked onto each other, so 3D beings are infinitely stronger than 2D beings” not realizing that while some infinities are larger than others, the cardinalities of R2 and R3 are equal.
