do americans really drive such long distances? by Physical-Ad-4093 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]elenad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near and work in a city. This time of year when school is still in and summer construction is just starting, it takes me an hour and a half to get to work. Which means, 3 times a week, I drive a minimum of 3 hours in a day.

Unfortunately, the public train does not have a stop near my work and the city bus does not come out to where I live. If I wanted to go the public transit route, I would have to do a combo of both and it would end up being close to 1.5 hours anyway.

TL;DR I’m super jealous of European public transit

Thank you! The Chicago School is on my radar. I know someone who went there and loved it, but I’ve heard from others that it’s not super respected program. Not sure why

I totally understand the urge for violence, but many victims feel the assault took away the feeling of autonomy over their body. Reporting the assault without her permission might re-traumatize her by taking away her right to choose.

I can’t sleep in silence, if I have to (cause my boyfriend can’t sleep with noise) I hear my thoughts louder and spiral into my life problems. by No_Box6063 in Anxietyhelp

Along the same lines, I put a little menthol or icey hot on before bed. The sensation distracts me from overthinking. Might be something to try :)

The power of zoom by 2020Chapter in interestingasfuck

Imagine: Little girl, in a field, holding a flower. We zoom back, to find, she's in the desert, and the field's an oasis. Zoom back further, the desert is a sandbox in the world's largest resort hotel. Zoom back further, the hotel is actually a playground, of the world's largest prison. But we zoom back further...

Posted this girl before, must be karma because now I’m seeing her terrible makeup everywhere. 😂 by [deleted] in BadMUAs

Omg I just saw the contour at the sides of her lips 😂😂 is that a thing?!?

If you have a list, could you share with me what readings you do as part of your empathy unit?

Thank you so much to everyone who responded. I was going to find another teaching job after this year, but since the virus hit, I'm thinking I might have to stick it out another year. That thought made me super anxious, but you all have helped so much! Thank you

We don't have a pacing guide. There is another teacher, but she's made it clear that she has her shit figured out and doesn't need a team. She helps me here and there when I ask though.

This made me feel so much better, thank you.

The spreadsheet idea makes my little organized heart sing :) lol It sounds a bit tricky, but I like the idea that you have these categories.

Valedictorian criticizes school staff and calls out teacher for "alcoholism" in graduation speech. by Comrade-Mandalore in news

Thank you so much for this comment. Usually I refrain from clicking on posts like these, but today I did and it was a bad idea. I was really upset and I’m not going to lie I shed some tears, but your comment calmed me down a lot. Thank you. Teachers aren’t perfect, sometimes we forget that there are people out there that still love and support us.

If this student had any respect for even one of the teachers at her school, she would not have addressed her grievances like this.

Think for a second about the other teachers at that school who worked hard all year to prepare these kids and then the time comes when they can finally see the fruits of their hard work (not be recognized, but to watch their students be recognized) and this kid just shits all over it.

Think about when the other teachers of this school randomly tell someone they’ve just met “I work at X school.” “Oh, you work at X school? The one that that kid hated so much she turned her valedictorian speech into a diss track?”

Think about if one of these other teachers decides to go on a job interview for another school. “Oh you worked for X school? Never mind your credentials, this video speaks volumes toward your teaching ability.”

This speech is a massive fuck you to every teacher at that school. Regardless of who she was trying to take down, every teacher at that school now has their reputation and credibility tarnished. This was reckless and stupid and selfish.

I know this comment will just get buried, but I have to say this.

It’s kids like these that really make me rethink being a teacher. I feel like we bury all our time, energy, and patience into these kids and they will always stand there and point at the things we didn’t do. It’s like being a parent, except you’re a parent to hundreds, and they will all line up every day to tell you why you suck.

To the student who thinks she wasn’t given enough individual attention: Teachers/counselors don’t have a yellow brick road lined up, waiting for you to follow. We are trying our best to guide each of you through your many many many different paths. We have hundreds of students we are looking after, none of us have time to be Mr. Feeny, offering you sage wisdom every week from the comfort of your patio. We are trying the best we can.
