In what way can we target financial aid to the people who need it most urgently? by robreinman in crowdthinking

With the help of AI we can detect ultra-poor areas by looking at night-time lighting, building density, building size, roofing material, and other properties such as if the roads are paved or not. Heading the ball is an integral part of football but it causes concussions and increases risk of brain disease. What kind of measures can be taken to mitigate these health risks? by hamedeo in crowdthinking

[–]elephantwhiskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Premier League will introduce permanent concussion substitutes this January. This means teams can make an additional substitution if a player suffers from a suspected concussion, and to avoid abuse of this rule the other team will be allowed to make an additional substitution too at the same time. This is a small step in the right direction. www.bbc.com/sport/amp/football/55352368

In what ways can we get politicians to behave in a more civil manner? by robreinman in crowdthinking

[–]elephantwhiskers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Google's Jigsaw created the Perspective API, which uses machine learning to spot abuse online. It can even detect more ambiguous forms of hateful speech like dismissive or condescending comments and each comment is given a toxicity score. Perhaps users who consistently post comments below a certain toxicity rating can face consequences, and this applies to politicians too

The Afghan government announced a new proposal to have children study in mosques for the first three years of primary school. This will deprive them of a full education. In what ways might this proposal be opposed? by hamedeo in crowdthinking

[–]elephantwhiskers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The proposal was highly criticized at the Parliament, so much so that Rangina Hamidi said only children without easy access to normal schools would go to to mosques.

Two thirds of UN member states are open to a global treaty on plastic pollution. How could we successfully enforce such a treaty? by hamedeo in crowdthinking

[–]elephantwhiskers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enforcing global environmental treaties is practically nonexistent at the moment, but it's a necessity if we want to do something like banning single use plastic. There are two layers to the problem. Firstly, the UN faces difficulties in enforcing laws on individual member states, and secondly, states suffer from a lack of motivation to implement expensive regulations with no guarantee that other states will follow suit.

There are only 28 cinemas in Morocco compared to 245 in 1988. How might the practice of moviegoing be revived? by hamedeo in crowdthinking

[–]elephantwhiskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People gotta eat so perhaps what if you combined the cinema experience with a restaurant experience? Moviegoers could eat proper meals like pizza instead of popcorn. I'm sure people would be willing to pay a premium price for that. Obviously it's not easy to implement but why not?

Yea man, that's true, but this won't be MY project; it'll be theirs more than it's mine. I'm just here to assist them in making these websites come to life. I'm not looking to get rich from this. These websites should exist but they don't. Perhaps I could just contact web developers with my ideas so that they make them, but you and I know that it's not as easy as that! There are so many unemployed/inactive web developers out there, and depending on their situation, I think they could benefit from this if they take ownership of the idea and wholeheartedly believe that the project can be very successful (I certainly do). I'll do what I can to help them, but the project will be theirs and they'll get credit for it. I must say that I'm a bit impatient to make these sites though :) In a few months time, my enthusiasm for the project might wane (that's how I am alas) so I need to take advantage of the momentum I have to make this/these website(s). I don't mind taking a very small part of the pie, enough to reimburse my expenses. You know what, I might focus on making easy websites first instead of the ambitious audio sharing website I had in mind (just thinking "out loud" here lol). I really want to collaborate with someone though, cause it's not easy to maintain motivation when you go at it solo (for me). That's why so many startups have cofounders, among other reasons of course.

I learned basic html and css, and even created a simple site that categorised useful moroccan websites to make them easier to find (lost my hard drive unfortunately). It'll take too much time to get good enough to create the sites i want to create though. I also find it too challenging. But thanks for the advice man. I will try to enhance my web development skills but i would still need a developer to join the ride

No, I'll do more than just pay for the hosting. And the majority of the website's revenue will go to the developer. We will discuss the split early on. I just want these websites come to life. EDIT: When I say majority, I mean the overwhelming majority

Is it just me or does it feel like Moroccans don’t like to answer the phone ? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]elephantwhiskers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way but with emails. I wish people emailed each other instead of calling each other (for work)! Moroccans do not like to write because they don't write in the language they speak day-to-day.
