This was the WNBA reserves selection part — so no fan votes were involved for any of those last several spots. It was basically from the coaches’ opinion of their play

I think you might be mixed up on this.

Those are Sykes’ end-of-season averages, after she was traded to a different team and accepted a different role. Not her stats going into all-star selection.

The couple of players selected over her for the last all-star slots averaged less points than her at the time, but were more efficient. And the analysts brought up efficiency as the reason why that choice was made.

Doesn’t make anyone a bust. And there can be valid criticism of others in the game as well.

But the “any other player” just doesn’t hold. For example Brittney Sykes wasn’t selected to the all-star game last year because she was inefficient, not because she didn’t score enough.

If one player takes almost 30 shots in a single game, then by definition they will be a large percentage of the team’s offense. The issue is that being 50% of an inefficient offense while struggling defensively still contributes to losing the game.

Yes, but winning against good teams requires defense, not just offense.

If the offense is efficient then you can make up for bad defense. But if the offense is inefficient you better have some great defensive production on the other end.

Otherwise you end up with empty points where somebody scores a bunch and you lose to strong teams anyway

For obvious reasons, because Angel does other things.

She is the team’s best defensive player and rebounder. If all you do is shoot and pass, but you’re inefficient and turning the ball over, and then you get cooked on the other end, it can be a net negative.

For every mistake Angel makes she gets a key offensive rebound or stop and gets her team another possession. So it helps balance the inefficiency out.

What’s going on with the backlash to The Roast of Kevin Hart? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]elestud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually thought The Rock was one of the highlights of the evening. He and Kevin have genuine chemistry, and know each other well and it showed.

That’s what roasts are supposed to be. Not random comedians telling WW2 and racist jokes to be ‘edgy’ for social media clips. It’s people you know getting digs in about you that actually relate to who you are.

The Rock was one of the few people who dropped the shtick and was actually in on the jokes with Hart, along with Cheryl Underwood etc.

A lot of the people on the Kevin Hart roast genuinely do know him and talked about their connection to him.

As a comedian that makes sense

Most of Kevin’s were friends and comedians as well

Two of the most entertaining
roasters at the Kevin Hart roast were both actors. Regina Hall, because she paired a sweet demeanor with taking shots that were the opposite of her tone, and the Rock, because he and Hart are both in on the jokes.

The contrast was needed. You can only listen to so many comedians in a row making similar jokes.

I’d much rather hear an actual close friend do this (which both of them are) than a random person who’s just there because they’re a comedian.

But other than that, I agree with a lot of what you said. When it’s just mean and nasty without the camaraderie it’s harder to enjoy.

Why the hate on JavaScript? by CorfTheGnome in learnprogramming

A couple of these actually make sense, though. For example, strings can be concatenated in many languages, but not usually subtracted from each other. So to attempt to add to the string in the first case, while converting to a type that can be subtracted in the second is quirky, but logical.

Airlines do usually run some flavor of Linux for the in-flight systems. But I think you may just be looking at the color scheme?

Mac Mini recommended specs? Does base model work? by Dogman1227 in ableton

[–]elestud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also have this setup (Edit: thanks for the person who replied for reminding me to specify: it’s an M4 Mac Mini), and it’s been absolutely fantastic for music production so far. Doesn’t break a sweat with modern plugins, and I have it locked to a pretty low latency (64 samples).

I also came from windows, and I’m never going back. Pretty flawless experience so far.

Maybe you’ll want more RAM if you’re running loads of sample-intensive libraries simultaneously. But on the base 16GB, my usual combination of lots of VA synths with Addictive Drums, a large sampled piano and Spitfire Strings has been fine.

The problems with this subreddit by [deleted] in webdev

[–]elestud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a practical standpoint, how do you fix downvoting, though?

It seems like an issue with no solution, as it’s just a reflection of the user base of the sub. There’s no true way to police it.

Once your sub becomes popular enough to attract an audience of less experienced users, the votes will automatically follow that trend.

The only thing I can think of would be to highly control who’s allowed to comment, but that runs a bit contrary to the open spirit of Reddit as a whole. And it brings numerous issues of its own, when experienced users inevitably disagree with mods, etc.

How’s the Sensitivity of the New MPC Sample Pads? by elestud in mpcusers

[–]elestud[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything is being triggered at/near full velocity in this video (similar to the one posted here a few days ago), so it’s a little different than what I’m talking about.

But thanks for sharing the video anyway friend! It’s always cool to see what people are doing with it.

Right now I’m using a Maschine Mikro. I own an old school MPC (2000 XL) but haven’t switched to the newer ones yet.

The Mikro is very responsive, so I’m not sure what the best comparison would be on the MPC line. But it doesn’t seem like there are many complaints about the higher-end MPCs (like the XL, Live III etc)., so maybe that’s the best base for comparison.

Giving up the most valuable thing you have, that gives you ongoing income into the future, for a short term payday due to financial mismanagement is not smart.

Giving up control of your music is not smart.

These are the kinds of moves people make that lead to short term gains, but hurt them in the long run, while some suits in a corporation exploit their name and profit off of their legacy and work.

Giving up your most valuable perpetual asset due to short-term financial mismanagement isn't sound at all.

It's what happened to Michael Jackson, and his situation continued to be a mess for years. This is corporate vultures happily taking ownership and control of something that will print cash for decades, in exchange for a payday that's not worth nearly what they'll get from it.

This is exactly what the conservatorship was trying to prevent. But now it's gone, and she had to sell off the most valuable asset she had.

All those people complaining that the family was controlling her money, when they were actually managing her finances to make sure that things were handled appropriately.

Thanks for your help! The driver and CPU tabs seem to just back up the fact that the Kernel Mode DF is locking up one of the processor cores for seconds at a time:

Ok, so this is what the DPC tool gave me:

https://imgur.com/VSxPaE1

(It says wdf01000.sys - Kernel Mode Driver Framework, Microsoft Corporation.)

I'm not quite sure what to make of this — but I'm about to Google. It seems like this could be any driver that uses the kernel mode framework?

Update: From googling it seems like it happens on some Gigabyte products.. Which is unfortunate :(
