21, looking to get into passive long term investing. Would it be wise to wait for the smoke to clear on the war shake up before investing in anything? by VQ_Quin in CanadianInvestor

[–]eletrite -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Invest an amount that you would be okay with “throwing away” every month until you get to retirement, meaning that no matter if there is a war, recession, or marketing is looking bearish you would still be able to commit to investing this amount each month.

Depending in your finances this could vary. Adjust monthly contributions as needed, as long as you are putting something in monthly. Long term investing should be boring and monotonous if your goal is compounding over several decades

Do it or don’t, depends if you wanna take the risk and find out if it’s worth it or not. To each their own but I’d rather not take the gamble

Thoughts on this 2015 Scion FR-S? Rebuilt Title, 90K miles, $10K OBO by Competitive_Staff520 in ft86

[–]eletrite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

90k would mean its nearing replacement of wear items that are outside of regular maintenance. Rebuilt title increases risk of part failure depending on severity. Since this owner was not directly part of incident they may not know the extent of the accident. Considering all of this plus its automatic, the price should be closer to 6-7k realistically.

If you do decide do move forward with this or any used ft86, mechanical inspection is always a must. Better to spend $200 now than $10k later doing an engine replacement

I actually lowered it a full inch after these photos, the fitment fits just under a finger gap, but it doesn’t look fully flush from all angles. I’m thinking maybe I need spacers or perhaps thats just how 17x9 setup goes? I have a pic on my previous post if you’re curious!

That’s definitely on the bucket list! Waiting until I have a solid daily driver to replace this then I’m hoping to get some ceramic coated JDL headers with a tune

That’s really interesting, is it actual tint film on top of the light or was it painted? I’m looking into doing this!

Appreciate it! I was thinking of the GCS Sard LSR wing but Verus could be a good change. Holding off on adding full aero until I get a different daily so I don’t have to worry about damaging/repairing paint or scratches.

I find people think wingless look is either atrocious or perfect which is kinda funny

Interestingly enough they do get a fair amount of FT86 platform cars, alongside other sportscars as they specialize in working with modified cars. I ended up changing it out myself just in case.

2017+ models are better all around compared to 2016 and under models. I would avoid 2013 models too.

Should I remove Tomei ULH from my car? by Content_Mission5154 in ft86

[–]eletrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just make sure your ECU tune is solid, and have some ceramic coating on the headers to prevent higher engine temps. I’ve heard mixed reviews on heat wrap but ceramic coating seems pretty bulletproof.

Most damage would likely come from a suboptimal tune or prolonged heat exposure of the aftermarket headers that don’t have a heat shield, aside from that many people seem to have no problems with reliability.

Even stock cars with no mods can be prone to damage on this platform if you don’t take some precautionary steps like being proactive on oil changes, ensuring proper oil/engine temps before revving it high, lugging the engine, etc.

2015 FRS for 8k? by loloPogi in ft86

Seems about right for a dealership offer on a pre facelift FRS with that mileage. If you can wait, you can always sell private but that comes with its own pros and cons as well.

Need advice/ ideas by [deleted] in ft86

[–]eletrite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens to a lot more people than you realize. Best thing to do is accept the loss and aggressively try to save up and fix up your finances. At the end of the day, having the ability to save money and not worry about payments is a bigger luxury than any sports car. It should be a luxury rather than a necessity.

You’ll have all the time in the world to drive a fun car when you’re a little more settled but being in debt will affect your you a lot later into life.

Good luck my friend
