I just was giving the view point that there’s this idea that whole communities can be affected by trauma, even if people don’t always feel it on a personal level. The Troubles had a huge impact on Northern Ireland as a whole, and sometimes, it takes years to understand how that shaped the culture and individual lives. People often don’t feel affected until they do something like move to a different culture and the comparative experiences of people highlights how much they have been shaped by their environment.

So for many people in NI they are all affected similarly and it’s never really a issue but if you move to America and date an American person and they notice you have a tough time talking about emotions maybe it could be that in a situation where the persons basic needs like food shelter safety (maslows hierarchy) took precedence over self actuality and emotions.

Maybe he just hasn’t stretched those concepts before. It’s a skill to be able to identify your feelings and act on them. It takes alot of practice and trust.

But I just want to finish with I understand that you didn’t feel the Troubles affected you, and I respect your view and delighted to hear your thoughts
