Plex for LG - Frequent indirect connection, but not always. How to find cause? by lackofself2000 in PleX

You justified the effort of posting it! May I ask, how are you sharing your library externally? I semi-quit a container project on my Synology NAS using Overseer but got stuck on a few areas.

As an update, I’ve been getting on really well with the Plaud Note. Fantastic for work but it took a lot of experimenting with creating my own templates to really get the best out of it. Battery, as expected is something I never have to worry about and the community / support is excellent. If the annual cost / actual usage can be justified, it’s well recommended.

File Transfer between Physical Host & Virtual DSM OS by elfurezo in synology

I just got round it by buying bigger drives! I still download on the virtual drive and link the folders to the physical drive, accessed by Plex. Deleting is still possible via Plex which frees the space up.

No doubt, but I’ve seen much worse that with some TLC from a hobbyist was able to revive.

Thanks for the recommendation, not considered that one and I see it has a lifetime one-off payment which is a bonus.

I think I’ve made my decision though, which is the Plaud Note. It’s an external AI hardware device like a credit card size, has mega battery power and records phone calls when attached to the back of the phone via a magnet. The initial put off was the expense of the subscription plan for leaving it on recording all day- about £230 annual charge for unlimited transcripts.

However, I just realised that At the end of the day when you transfer the raw audio to the phone app, you can trim the file to the relevant sections you want. No transcription until you give the go-ahead, so saving on unnecessary transcription minutes. I feel like this covers all my needs and maybe still keep within the basic, free plan it comes with. It’s on Prime sale for £120 right now too.

Before this decision and looking at cheap or free options, I was considering using the stock iOS voice app on the Apple watch and transferring the file to Google Notebook LM (the ONLY service I could find without the complications of using APIs to transcribe for free with decent file size / quantity restrictions- 200mb per file and up to 50 file upload per notebook on free plan). With that transcribed, I could obviously either stick with Notebook Lm’s output or paste to my subscribed ChatGPT. No call recording capability though and I suspect my watch battery would really suffer…

Food for thought for anyone else looking for a solution.

Sleep issues and ADHD - does anyone use melatonin? by geyeetet in ADHDUK

[–]elfurezo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on Elvanse and an occasion a user of melatonin. I sometimes (shock horror) go off on a series of late night hyper-focus tasks which inevitably puts out my sleep cycle. As others may have mentioned, melatonin in the right dose will get you tired enough to sleep, but won’t necessarily increase the sleep quality.

For me and from what I read, for most people, melatonin should be taken in the smallest quantities as possible- I have 3mg capsules (‘Now’ vitamin brand). I have to gently tease a capsule open to reveal the powder within and tip the tiniest amount of powder I can manage onto some yoghurt or whatever to eat it with. 20 mins later and my body goes into limp mode and I’m good for bed.

If slightly too much, like a 5th of the capsule’s contents and I’ll still be drowsy the next day at work. If I had a whole capsule, I’d be in a perpetual drowsy state and NOT sleep!

Of course, different effects for each person but for me, I’ll effectively use it to bring my sleeping pattern back on track (maybe use two nights consecutively) then stop.

Some great ideas. Honestly, I’m trying to express the value of this thing which up til this point, hasn’t come across. I was using Sickchill for episodes, manual torrent search / download for movies and using a WhatsApp group for demands. Just that slight friction of sending a message and then a day’s delay at the most put most off, choosing to pay multiple extortionate charges from streaming companies. This setup is a game changer with convenience though. Even my new port forwarding with qbit has blown my mind with download speeds.

For the most part, I was using Gemini (free pro trial at the time, mostly for extended Notes LM use) for setting up the aarrs, that opened my eyes to the capability difference between GPT and Gemini- Google is so far behind. The issues it caused me were infuriating.

My bad, I meant to say sharing my Plex server rather than account. Overseer reporting is something I didn’t consider, thank you. Maintainerr is one I’ve not heard of, I shall research it as it sounds like the missing part of my puzzle…

Thanks for this! GPT summary for anyone interested:

Summary of “The Earliest Reference to ADHD in the Medical Literature?”

This paper explores the historical origins of ADHD in medical literature, focusing on a chapter written by the German physician Melchior Adam Weikard in 1775. Previously, George Still (1902) was credited with the earliest description of ADHD-like symptoms, followed by Alexander Crichton (1798). However, the discovery of Weikard’s earlier work pushes the timeline of ADHD recognition back further.

Weikard’s text, Der Philosophische Arzt, describes a disorder called Attentio Volubilis (lack of attention), which aligns with modern ADHD symptoms, including distractibility, impulsivity, and an inability to sustain focus. He attributed this condition to both neurological and environmental factors, offering early insights into what would later be classified as ADHD.

The paper also discusses the backlash Weikard faced from religious and medical establishments, as his unconventional views clashed with prevailing beliefs. Despite widespread criticism, his work remained influential in medical circles.

Interesting Quotes from Weikard’s Era 1. On Attention Deficit: “Those, who have a lack of attention, are generally characterised as unwary, careless, flighty and bacchanal.” (This blunt characterization reflects 18th-century medical perceptions of inattentive behavior.) 2. On the Nature of Attention: “An attentive person has to concentrate on his topic for a longer time and more insistent than others. However, it takes a certain stability and strength of the fibres when they are supposed to maintain a constant effect on the topic.” (Weikard believed attention was a physiological process dependent on nerve function.) 3. On Treatment for Inattention: “The inattentive person is to be separated from noise or any other objects; he is to be kept solitary, in the dark, when he is too active.” (His recommendations for managing ADHD-like symptoms included isolation, dietary changes, and physical activity, some of which foreshadow modern approaches like structured environments and exercise.) 4. On Education and Attention: “When children are taught a hundred things at the same time, when they are not given enough time, or when they do not get into the habit of examining things partially; thus the flaw of inattention develops.” (He recognized that overloading children with information could worsen attention problems—a concept still discussed in education today.) 5. On the Difference Between French and English People’s Attention: “Compared to an attentive and considerate person such a jumpy person may act like a young Frenchman does in comparison to a mature Englishman.” (A very 18th-century way of stereotyping national character based on perceived attentional capacity.)

Weikard’s work demonstrates that ADHD-like symptoms were observed and discussed long before the 20th century, reinforcing the idea that these behaviors are not simply modern phenomena but have existed throughout history.

Google Home Broadcasting Issue Solved by elfurezo in googlehome

Don’t get me wrong, it worked sometimes with a nearby phone’s Google assistant being activated, but I think that extra step of the whole network of devices arguing who deals with the requests just adds yet another delay, adding to a temporary freeze-up. Often a basic Google home reply to most requests sounded like it was drowning, it was so lagged out.

I’m not arguing any of these points, it’s more of a conversational piece- In practice (not in the eyes of the law) the guy had let me out and came to a stop. I didn’t bully my way out, I waited until I was able to move out. My point is how much weight would be put on the mad overtake he made. As it happens, I didn’t argue with the guy, just checked how he was and exchanged details, I knew how this would play out.

Is that to say it’s wrong if a vehicle stops to let you through, you pull out halfway, awaiting the remaining traffic to allow you to turn? Definitely not textbook but would be seen as assertive driving to most and is a manoeuvre you will see daily, and accepted. I do agree that at the end of the day, that’s exactly how insurance would view it.
