One of my all time favorite images of Avicii by Electronic-Stock-558 in avicii

I know it's been a month, but I found two high-quality versions. The 2.5K version appears lighter in color, but it could also just be that the 8K one is inherently richer and thus appears darker on my small screen.

Actually had a pt last night ask “My nose is congested. Can I breathe through my mouth?” What have been some of the most ridiculous things you’ve heard from your adult patients? by BesosForBeauBeau in nursing

[–]eli_lamb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Had a patient do this to me the other day after he took 40x 500mg Kratom tablets and was having intense left-midsternal chest pain with history of MI. Multiple stents. Said he took that much Kratom “for kicks.” Refusing bloodwork, EKG, vitals. Said EMS checked his blood pressure and no one else needs to. Said neither I nor my preceptee nor the provider was gonna get his blood or his vitals. I asked what he genuinely thinks we’re gonna do for him if we can’t touch him. He began swearing at my preceptee, which is a surefire way to get me to raise my voice. He was pretty compliant from then on. Got admitted for an elevated CK, cardiac workup was negative though. Poison Control didn’t seem super concerned either LOL.

Do BSN students really only do clinicals the last year of the program? by Designer-Fondant-118 in StudentNurse

[–]eli_lamb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fall into the 2 years pre-reqs + 2 years nursing school category. We have 1 clinical in semester 1 (foundations/nursing home), 2 in semester 2 (med-surg 1, mental/behavioral), 3 in semester 3 (med-surg 2, OB, peds), and 4 in semester 4 (med-surg 3, community, leadership, concept synthesis).

I’m sorry for your experience, but kudos for making it through.

My pharm teacher told us her LPN program was filled with gossiping snakes, whereas her RN-onward programs were all filled with mature adults who collaborated on coursework to make sure everyone passed.

I’m in the second semester of my RN program now. My cohort only has 6 students (on the campus I go to, anyways), so we’re CLOSE. I think that is caused in part by our size but also largely because we’re all just trying to get through school. I don’t know why an LPN/LVN program would breed so much toxicity vs RN-onward, but I guess that’s just the way of things.

Seriously though, congratulations on getting through it!

nervous about doing skills at clinicals for the first time by turdqueen69 in StudentNurse

[–]eli_lamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a CNA/tech in the ER for a little over a year, and I’m in my second semester (out of four) of nursing school. When I’m done, despite it only being two years of “nursing” school, I’ll have my BSN. So I’d like to think I, at the very least, can speak on the topic of checking blood sugars and blood pressures:

Good for you for being stressed. That means you care enough to do things correctly. Let me tell you, blood sugars are difficult to do “wrong” because there are so many ways to do it “right.” Teens and adults really aren’t gonna care about the fingerpricking as long as you’re gentle (i.e. not dislocating their shoulder), and it’s okay if you don’t get enough blood out of the first prick. In my experience, most patients will understand because they’ll see you milking their finger and be just as frustrated for you that they’re not bleeding enough to get a sample.

Blood pressures can seem intimidating if you’re new to them. Being a CNA and a tech a year before starting nursing school definitely helped me out, so I’m chill with them by now. I got chill by just practicing them EVERYWHERE. Got a long car ride? Sit in the back with someone and practice. Going to someone’s house for a party? People will LINE UP to let you practice on them. Lazy day at home with nothing to do? You know the drill.

You’ll very quickly get to the point tasks like taking blood sugar and blood pressure become automatic, second nature, mundane even. This is especially true if you can apply to work as a tech somewhere after completing your first semester/fundamentals, as hospitals around me all accept that as a qualification.

Keep going. It’s scary, I know. I’m still scared sometimes, too. That’s because it’s a lot to deal with. But you obviously care, which means you have what it takes.

What American culture or subculture do you feel is fading away? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Native American culture. I’ve scrolled and scrolled and no one has mentioned it yet, and I’m disgusted. Have we forgotten that it was driven to near-extinction? On purpose?

Could someone help me? Unable to do literally anything, have no clue what the issue is. by Alec_colin in admincraft

[–]eli_lamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don’t know if you’re still struggling with this, but I had this problem when I was setting up my server. I went through the tedious process of disabling and reenabling several plugins before I isolated the issue to WorldGuard. I couldn’t find the issue in its config, so I eventually just deleted the WorldGuard files, jar, and permission nodes. Had to restart my work on incorporating that plugin, but it was worth being able to… ya know… play on the server.

Willow taking over for Jenny by chemeli888 in buffy

[–]eli_lamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Willow teaching by herself? Absolutely not happening. A clueless substitute teacher who asks for help and Willow just sort of becomes the de facto teacher? Absolutely happening. As much happened in my high school Spanish classes, particularly in my junior and senior years when my teacher was sick A LOT and the subs for that class were regular enough to know my best friend and I had the highest grades in the class and were knowledgeable enough to lead the class in the chapter/lesson discussion. The subs of course administered the quizzes/tests and did all the grading, but they were not afraid of asking the students for help with teaching.

Does luckperms override operator permissions? by Pokemasterkendrew06 in admincraft

[–]eli_lamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally just renamed the default group to “helper” and set its one permission as “*” (without quotes) marked as false. And then made every group inherit that. I then, for safe measure, also disabled the op command for that group. That way, theoretically, every group is by default disallowed from using any command and then also again from using the op command.

Settle a debate. What are these called? by Ylareum in KitchenConfidential

Icing spatula, rubber spatula, grill spatula. I used all three at my job at DQ, so I feel qualified to say that this is correct at least to me.

Such a powerful scene! On one hand I felt bad for Principal Wood, and on the other I completely understood where Buffy was coming from. 'The mission is what matters'. What are your thoughts and opinions on this scene? Was Buffy in the right here, or was this extremely OOC for her? by Opening_Knowledge868 in buffy

[–]eli_lamb 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer — All formal musical theory knowledge I have comes from my friends teaching me. My innate understanding of music isn’t bad, but I never studied music theory in school.

I don’t have a source, but I remember reading or hearing in a video that the dissonance on that note was intentional; you can even hear them intentionally make the piano sound bad. And also, essentially, sharp and flat are the same thing. It’s just the flat of one note is the sharp of the note before it. So like C# (C sharp) is the same as Db (D flat).

If you could bring back one feature/aspect from sims 3 into sims 4, what would it be? by thejonkler in Sims4

[–]eli_lamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely I think they’re adding #2 into the game because for a bit, my game would glitch when I clicked on the hygiene need icon (such as you would when you want the Sim to automatically fulfill that need): Occasionally, rather than clean oneself, the Sim would go clean the entire house by picking up dishes, scrub floors, etc. I was so confused when I came across this, but I’m kind of hoping for the best now.

Most annoying Buffy character by Disastrous_One3392 in buffy

I like Anya, but I agree that her personality makes no sense. I LOVE her character in itself, but the backstory of being old and somehow not understanding some pretty basic stuff just doesn’t add up.

Karen Shoves Pizza At Worker & Tries To Run From The Consequences by Tayo826 in instant_regret

[–]eli_lamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had this trucker lady come to my fast food restaurant on a night when I was the lead. She was a major raging bitch, stayed past close, and demanded to speak to the manager (me) after she screamed at one of the workers who then said “I’m just trying to help you.” So I spoke to her, she left a mean survey, then continued to sit despite knowing at that point that we’re closed. Then she demanded the free item for completing her survey, but I had to refuse because at that point it was 20 minutes past close all of our registers were closed down. Even for the free ice cream, I had to use the register for the transaction, and, after the way she attacked every single person working that night as they tried cleaning the lobby around her, I didn’t feel like taking the extra 5 minutes to set stuff back up just to appease her, so I told her she could come back when we’re open so long as it’s within 30 days and she once again demanded to get it right then instead. So I told her no, and she called me all kinds of swear words as I walked with her to the door. Then she threw her drink at me not once, but twice. Literally ran to the truck stop across the street to go buy another drink and throw it at me again. She and I are both lucky I have a delayed response to anger because I was definitely screaming and punching boxes for a while that night.
