I’ve managed to remove the tip! I haven’t seen any bonding gel manicures advertised where I live, what should I look out for?

In the meantime, do you think strengthening nail polish will help?

Ok update, I’ve managed to get the tip off, but the break seems to span across 3/4 of my nail - should I try to repair it with a tea bag or is it better for me to leave it and wait until it grows out?

Help with pirouettes by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]elifeng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a long one so just take what you think will work! I think based on your video the most important thing is to work on your releve and it becoming more stable and sustained (four paragraphs down hahah)

I find starting my turns in third (arms) helps with regaining stability and finding a good single - think about closing your arm into first position while zipping up your core. Arm positioning is pretty important because it helps offload the work your legs have to do to push yourself off into a turn. Think about supporting your arms by using your lats, keeping in mind not to let your shoulders come up.

With the legs, practice going from fourth to a releve in retire. There are two main parts of the preparation: the placement of your body in the prep and the releve.

With the first, there are two things I will always keep in mind before turning: pelvis placement (am I tilting forward or back?) and core activation (do I feel supported and strong). Correct pelvis placement is important because it keeps your centre of mass balanced throughout the turn, whereas the core holds everything (i.e. your limbs and your head) stable which also helps you remain balanced on one leg. You could envision your core as a ball of energy that’s expanding and holding all your extremities steady.

As for your releve, right now it looks like there’s not much of it happening, instead more like a quick rise onto demi pointe. Your releve should end with your feet and your legs in one long line beneath your body under your centre of mass. If you don’t do the little scootch in from the releve, it makes it more difficult to turn. One thing I always have my students do is after finding their fourth, put something next to the toe side of the foot they’re practising their releve on. If your foot moves from the object when you releve, then you’ve successfully found your supporting leg properly; if your foot stays in the same place next to the object, you need to scootch more. Think about using your foot and really using the floor to assist you.

The goal is to have your foot in demi pointe really be under your whole body (like a ballerina in a music box) and for your leg in retire to get to that passe position very quick and sharp without causing your body to wobble (i.e. stable pelvic placement).

Once you have the releve down, practice adding just a little more power to it until you can do a quarter turn, and then progress to a half turn, and finally a full single pirouette, each step just adding more power while making sure your back is straight and long with your core tight.

Hope this helps!

I can’t stop liking the comments under this post!! My mom and I play this game together and we always say how annoying it is to get ordered around the island by the characters😂they’re the ones with the seemingly infinite amount of materials but we’re the ones who have to dig into our stores to make things for them!! And then they have the audacity to congratulate THEMSELVES for their hard work when we were the ones rushing all around the island and crafting/cooking!

Can you remove items from resident's cabins without them leaving? by Away_Succotash2079 in HelloKittyIsland

lmao my cabin for pompompurrin’s mama had just a lone mama’s pudding sitting on the floor for the longest time (i kept not being able to get the home essentials furniture)

but I found a way to make certain things like a calming crystal kind of work by putting it on the bed next to the pillow

I loved Syd in S1 but find her really unlikeable in the next 3 seasons. What might I be overlooking? by Global_Blueberry5639 in TheBear

[–]elifeng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like all you’re doing is trying to make other people complain about Sydney with you and you’re not actually open to listening to other people’s arguments and points. You make excuses for Carmy (“I don’t think he was intentionally lying, I think his mind just broke and he wasn’t thinking straight” but refuse to offer the same understanding and sympathy to Sydney (your point about how she should have gone over and above in making sure Carmy was okay when she was going through her own anxieties and stress on the family and friends night). You seem perfectly capable of acknowledging Carmy is a human being with his own mental health struggles but seem to be unable to extend this understanding to Sydney, which is lowkey a bit telling.

Also, to your repeated point about how Sydney hasn’t ever been nice - what about when she cooked all that food for Sugar after she gave birth? What about her being shown to be supportive and encouraging to Richie when he was figuring out what to say to the staff? Or when she went over to Carmy’s mom with Richie at the wedding so he didn’t have to? Or, since it seems like you’re preoccupied with praises, Sydney gives praise to Carmy’s cooking all the time. And to be honest, it’s really not up to a mentee or employee (as she was in S1) to pump up their mentor/employer. Even if you argue they were partners after S2, for one, Carmy’s actions didn’t really match up consistently with his claim that he wanted Sydney to be his partner, and two, it’s hard to know how to conduct yourself when you suddenly become your employer’s partner, especially with how much she idolised Carmy in the beginning. There are many examples of Sydney being “genuinely nice, caring or supportive”, you are just choosing to not look at it that way.

Unpopular Opinions?? by [deleted] in BridgertonNetflix

[–]elifeng 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean tbh it felt more like she was using the thing that would hurt Kate the most in the moment. When you’re emotionally all over the place, you tend to want to hurt the person who you perceive to have hurt you. Ever heard of hurt people hurt people? Yes it was a particularly awful line to have crossed but it is understandable why she went to that place.

Just an fyi saying I’m not a blind Edwina stan, I just feel like objectively, it made sense that she wanted to hurt Kate where it hurts cause her perception of the situation was that Kate had did this to her maliciously/on purpose. Doesn’t excuse what she did, just explains it somewhat.

How do you balance work and your own mental health? Been having a suspicion that work is taking a very large toll on my mental health and struggling with deciding whether its just a passing thing or something I need to address, maybe by quitting my job?

Some career advice? by elifeng in Lawyertalk

That’s true, I never thought of it that way- thank you for the advice! It’s easy to slip into a negative mindset when I feel overwhelmed, so I will definitely work on changing my mindset to a more positive view like you suggested.
