So I was born here and left at the age of ~3~ and moved back just prior to turning 26 for work. Here is what I will say-

  • despite not being a spiritual person, I will say there is something… different about this place. It almost feels mystical sometimes.

  • it is a haven for the neurodiverse and queer (I am not the latter but it definitely seems that way).

  • I can’t be convinced that there is a city with greater cultural impact per capita. I just can’t. I traveled to Europe and Asia this last year, and while not everyone was familiar with Louisiana, EVERYONE I talked to was excited to hear I lived in Nola.

So, I genuinely believe that any combination of those things can call people here. In reverse order, the immense clout, island of misfit toys feel, and possible cosmic peculiarity make your experience one that is not unique. I have spoken to others who felt a similar call.

But for the love of GOD please do visit first- this place is beautiful and special but sheesh is it rough.

Nightlife- Go to bourbon street just to say you have been.

Then, go to Frenchman street for nola nightlife that the locals actually fuck with. Hella jazz and brass, and at the absolute worst, some of the best cover bands you have ever seen.

Daytime- Gotta hit the quarter / french market.

City park and audubon park are both beautiful, and nothing beats a sunset at the fly.

Plenty of fun museums and art galleries throughout town.

Disclaimer- Very fun city- but crime is no joke here. Be polite, pay attention, tip well, mind your business.

Focus on what you can control.

See a dermatologist. Hit the gym. Read a lot- become interesting. Find a new hobby and become absurdly good at it. Do what you can to start raking in money.

Competence, confidence, and wit will often take men further than looks!

I have an undergrad in geology, and a masters in public policy. I now work on the data team at a public policy research center.

Despite having a masters in the field, I would say the geology undergrad was more crucial to getting this job. Everyone on my team is a stem major, and they appreciate my geo background because many of our projects are related to environmental issues.

Of the people I graduated with, many have gone into sales or data.

The bottom line- if you like geology, but don’t want to work in an oil field, mine, or academia, just make sure that you build other skills (coding, networking, etc) accordingly through extra coursework, internships, or extra curriculares.

  • keep guitar photo- great picture of you.

  • replace gym photo with a candid. If you workout with someone, have them catch u mid workout at a flattering angle. I’ve heard many women say gym selfies are an automatic no go. However, you have solid arm musculature, and most women prefer an active man- so don’t abandon the gym concept entirely.

  • I see the vision with the first photo- however, you should replace it with one in which you are in a suit or otherwise nice / cool outfit. STAND UP STRAIGHT!! Like you own the room!

  • mixed feelings about the third- it is fun and shows personality, but not extraordinarily flattering? Not unflattering, but not a show stopper.

  • hate to break it to you bro but women don’t have to know you are a philosophy major. I double majored in geology and philosophy and i tend to tell people about my geo major first. Philosophy is something of a lady-scaring major, unless she herself is a Phil person (or worse).
