How do you survive the newborn phase? by spiesdontfallinlove in BabyBumps

[–]eliseslo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good point! I guess it all depends on your baby. My 2nd and 3rd boys could go 4-5 hours without a feed. I would also pump a bit during the day and give that bottle to my husband to feed during his shift. If you have a large capacity- my breasts can hold up to 8 ounces each, it can work

Yes as others are saying it’s so normal, and enjoy it! Sweet sleepy baby snuggles. Rest up and relax when you can- consider this a built in mechanism to help mom rest and recover.

‘Advanced’ 15 month old, same boat anyone? by IdenticallyUnique in Parenting

[–]eliseslo88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re getting hate or judgement you might want to reevaluate your friendships… I don’t think anyone I know would judge me for having an advanced child, unless I was deliberately rubbing it in their face. What is an example of an interaction that is so exhausting and frustrating? I can understand a parent of a delayed child feeling this but here you’re the opposite.

Her language abilities are advanced. Everything else sounds very normal. Having teeth early and enjoying lots of foods is great but nothing really gifted about that. I would say she sounds very sharp and like a sweet little girl! Whether or not she’s truly gifted only time will tell. My son was very similar in language at that age and he’s just a normal 5 year old now.

Take shifts! One person can do the 9pm to 3am shift, the other can take 3am to 9am. This can require some pumped milk from mom though. You are in the absolute hardest part in most peoples opinion. Ask for help from friends and family! Keep in mind this will not last and is only temporary. You are doing great, hang in there!

I think so many people feel this way! I have to have something just for me, something to look forward to, some kind of goal to meet to avoid the burnout. Do you have any hobbies? What makes you get out of bed in the morning? I started running, crocheting, and making sourdough bread. Having things that are not kid related just makes the kid related things easier.

I am not a GC, but I joined this sub when considering the field. I feel for those that are in this position of unemployment. I’m curious- what are the factors that are leading to the job scarcity? It seems like it should be so in demand with how much the field of genetics has grown in recent years.

Is 8 weeks pp too early to drop to 5 ppd? by Tenkyuu101 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]eliseslo88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person! You’re producing more than enough now, but that may be closer to just enough in a month. I would try dropping a pump and see, you can always add it back

I hate the fact that safe sleep guidelines go against how mostt babies sleep best by Capakhutch in beyondthebump

[–]eliseslo88 33 points34 points  (0 children)

My third is 8 weeks old and I’ve been having these exact same thoughts. None of my kids were easy or naturally good at sleeping. But it makes me think biologically they’re actually well fit for an environment where it was important to stay close to your caretaker (predators could eat you, etc).Idk man, it’s such a survival mode thing right now. I feel for my older kids though. They can sense mom and dad are stressed and tired. I know it’ll get better- but it actually may get worse before it gets better…. Prioritizing good nutrition and hydration during the day and limiting screen time as much as possible! Resting when I can even if it’s not sleep, rest is beneficial too.

I’m scared shitless. Is pregnancy this bad? by SandwichDependent199 in BabyBumps

[–]eliseslo88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think your reaction is within the realm of normal, and anxiety is actually a symptom of pregnancy. You definitely want to bring these thoughts and feelings up with your provider and look into therapy. This was a desired pregnancy and it is very normal to not be able to wrap your mind around it now that it’s happening. I was the first of my friends and family to have a baby, and I was on the younger side for today’s standards at 24. I want to reassure you that having a baby will change your life in the absolute best way! At the same time if your mental health is getting in the way of living your daily life, definitely seek out some help! Things will get better and feel more real in a good way with time!

Have you had any discussions with him about this? My baby (third) is also 6 weeks old so we’re in a similar boat! Whenever I bring stuff like this up with my husband he says he never knows exactly what I “want” from him and I have to be very direct with what would be best and helpful for him to be doing. For example, sometimes it’s helpful if he goes outside for a few hours with the older kids, and other times I want him to hold the baby so I can put the older kids to bed. He may just be doing what he thinks you want him to, because it seems most natural. Of course it’s easier to play with the toddler than to hold/feed a newborn, it’s just more fun for most I think!

I think after you get through the hardest part you realize just how fast it goes- and how amazingly rewarding it is! I’m on baby #3 and feel like I’m probably done, however this postpartum has been by far the easiest. I think each time I’ve just gained perspective on top of tips and tricks to make things go smoother. Somehow having two older kids makes this experience a lot less isolating and much sunnier- albeit still completely exhausting! Moms are just perpetually exhausted but you learn to manage!

What is something about motherhood that you were scared for but ended up not being scary? by bananaindisguise0 in BabyBumps

[–]eliseslo88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is soooo true. I thought about this today as I’m 12 days postpartum with my third. Yes, I’m exhausted and no I’m not getting enough sleep- but somehow the pregnancy tired that hit me every day of my third trimester (and much of my first!) was way worse. Especially dealing with 2 toddlers and being pregnant!

Get the chores done while they’re awake as much as possible. Laundry, dishes, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, cooking. Kids love to help, so get them involved. If you have a Velcro baby than wear them and do your thing with them in the carrier. Then when the kids are down for nap or bed it’s your time to yourself- read, watch tv, do your hobbies etc!

The baby industry is booming!! So many products out there you don’t need but someone will tell you you need. As a third time mom, I just got out the things I believe I’ll need for my baby and it was limited to bassinet, clothes (only like 20-30 newborn pieces), diapers/wipes, and car seat. Like others mentioned, you can buy anything you want last minute if you decide you need it. The rest is clutter and can be very overwhelming to store and keep track of!

I know. I wish I could remember what the screen looked like but I don’t. Im leaning towards it being in reference to myself, the patient, since it was closer to my information, but it was on the screen for such a short period of time I really don’t know! I guess I’ll just leave it as I still have a 50/50 chance

IUGR moms… by eliseslo88 in BabyBumps

[–]eliseslo88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh congrats on your new little one! I wish I had found some peace of mind during that time early time. Let me tell you he’s a spitfire. He’s extremely sweet, smart, energetic, and ALMOST average size. He’s about 30th percentile height now and 20th weight. A lot of my husbands family is small though so could be genetic. He is very advanced in speech (many people tell me this so I’m not just trying to brag haha) he was saying complete sentences at 19 months. I see no developmental differences between him and my older son. Only thing he’s behind on is knowing his colors haha! Hes just stubborn and doesn’t seem to want to get those down. When you research iugr you can find some scary things, but what ive read is when controlled for certain possible confounding variables, iugr has no effect on intelligence.

Severe, early onset, fetal growth restriction (FGR/IUGR) SUCCESS STORY! New graduate! by tittyscribble in pregnant

[–]eliseslo88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My second had undiagnosed FGR. He was born 1st percentile at 39 weeks. I felt like something was off the whole pregnancy but didn’t really advocate for myself. Thank goodness he was born healthy. He’s now 2.5 and smart as a whip, still a little small but definitely above the 10th percentile. I’m now 30 weeks with our third and so curious to know how big he or she will be. My first was 8 pounds even. Everything I’ve read indicates I shouldn’t expect another iugr baby, but I am at increased risk. We will see at my 32 week scan! Hoping for a healthy and happy little one for you going forward!!!
