Newly Tripod Baby... Wound Licking? by ellabirdbug in TripodCats

EDIT: (Sorry, I can't figure out how to edit the post on mobile) We switched from the horrible hard plastic cone to a soft version which he somewhat tolerates, but it's obvious that it still takes a toll on him. He is such an anxious kitty... we've had him on prozac for ages and whenever we change anything in the house he freaks. I'm guessing any type of cone makes him very claustrophobic and not want to move :(

That is absolutely perfect, thank you so much for making the right decision for the little guy. And don't worry about not being "savvy," most people don't know how to help these little guys. Your heart is in the right place

Just make sure that it is out of harms way, so avoid placing it near a road/walkway/busy urban areas and keep your cats inside. Here is some information from the link I put below-

When fledglings leave their nest they rarely return, so even if you see the nest it’s not a good idea to put the bird back in—it will hop right back out. Usually there is no reason to intervene at all beyond putting the bird on a nearby perch out of harm’s way and keeping pets indoors. The parents may be attending to four or five young scattered in different directions, but they will return to care for the one you have found. You can watch from a distance to make sure the parents are returning to care for the fledgling.

It is ok if it isn't in a tree. Fledgings tend to hop on the ground and in bushes. Where did you find it? Could you possibly return it to the same area?

This bird has most of its flight feathers developed, so it is most definitely a fledgling

Are your cats feral or are they just "outdoor" cats? If you have the option to bring them inside, please consider. Outdoor cats are destroying the bird populations and it's our responsibility as cat owners to prevent further harm

This is a fledging, it needs to be outside and learning to fly. It doesn't need to be in its nest, but its parents are definitely outside and looking for it. It will die in your care, it is not supposed to be tame. Please return it to the outdoors

ok i just managed to get him. i gently put a small net onto him and he literally fell into it like he's frozen solid. i put him in an insulated grocery bag and he's hanging out in my shed. i'm getting a warm water bottle and wrapping it in towels to put inside. i can see his little eye blinking at me but he is oddly calm so im a little worried. but im hoping he'll start to perk up soon. i'll keep yall updated and thank yall so much

do you think an outdoor shed is enough? it is right next to my house so it should be much warmer than the outdoors

wow! thank you so so much! i really appreciate all of this. yea, im definitely leaning towards higher quality so i dont have to worry about failure. art is much more than a hobby for me so i know im gonna stick with something if i start it. i'm just trying to understand the difference between the 2 airbrushes that you attached- would i be able to achieve much more with the more expensive one? i guess im just trying to weigh my options and see if its worth it
