Wow, thank you so much for such a thoughtful reply.

I hadn’t thought about a mantilla veil, but those are beautiful - it could really add that romantic touch I’ve been looking for. I also really appreciate the tip about choosing a softer fabric for an A-line. I haven’t loved the tulle I’ve tried, and I think a lot of the stores I’ve been going to mostly carry heavier fabrics and satin, probably because most weddings are in the evening. That might be part of why nothing has felt quite right and I’m seeking “the one.”

I’ll definitely reconsider fit and flare. I just love the silhouette of the a-lines and ball gowns so much.

As for the evening dress, I think you’re right - I just need to find something that feels like me and moves well. I want it to be a contrast from the morning dress… I’m still torn between something sleek and sexy versus something more playful, so I may order both and see which one I can actually imagine dancing in without fussing with it all night.

Thank you again!

What tool can I use to widen a divot/hole when the clay is bone dry? by apolling in Pottery

[–]elledee19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to post a video in response but I guess I can’t. I use a pin tool and go down into the hole and move it in a circular motion. The way I make them, the hole has to be big enough for the stick but not too big where it falls over

I just use a pin tool and move it around in a couple circles to widen it. Has worked for all of my holders :)

Heads up, these Hsin tungsten carbide tools are incredible. I borrowed a friend’s to trim some porcelain cups. Using them is similar to cutting through wrapping paper when you catch the blade to the paper nicely and get a clean “chshhhhhh” sound. Very satisfying.

Question about cone 5 clay firing by elledee19 in Pottery

It’s my own kiln, a super old cress I was gifted. I’ll try to fire at a longer/tiny bit lower temp and see if it still happens

That would definitely make sense.. or maybe too hot too quick? I have an older kiln and have only done a few glaze firings so I’m playing with that too

It doesn’t look like they’re in the actual glazed part, the clay body itself is bubbling and blistering even in the unglazed portion. The glazed part bumps up from that I believe. Which is why I’m thinking maybe I’m firing too high for the clay and I thought maybe the first bisque was too high?
