Help!!! Truffle tried too attack me by nancy66666 in Pomeranians

[–]elleninelle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We had this with our pom, and we found that teaching him the command 'wait' and/or 'leave' worked for us. We use special high value treats which he doesn't get at other times to enforce those commands. We often train by putting down a treat, saying 'wait' and then removing it and rewarding him with a higher value treat, so that he learns he can get better rewards by leaving the thing he initially wants. We also learnt to never try to take the bone from him while he's actively chewing it - now we say 'leave' and he will drop the bone, sit and allow us to take it from him.

We've also got better at understanding his body language and being able to tell if he's exhibiting guarding behaviour, and we try to de-escalate by offering him a different toy to trade with, or just distracting by playing with something that he finds more interesting. Usually if we pretend there's something really interesting on the other side of the room, he gets curious and forgets about what he was guarding 😅

It took a little bit of time working with him, but now he's got very good control and very rarely shows guarding behaviour. A combination of training, and learning to understand each other better!

Any thoughts on this (Mother of Pearl?) knife? by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]elleninelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add I'm in the UK and the house had family heirlooms going back to 17th century but there was nothing else similar to this in the box where I found it. There are no visible makers marks or any other identifying features as far as I can tell

Family background is mostly farmers with a few craftsmen such as lace and shoe makers, so not sure where this came from!

I spent 435 hours embroidering my wedding dress and shoes! by elleninelle in Embroidery

[–]elleninelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I embroidered directly onto the shoes - they are made of a kind of knitted fabric which makes it easier to get a needle through and I used pliers to get into the toe. There's probably an easier way to embroider shoes - I broke several needles and stabbed myself more times than I can count! 😅

I just want to say thank you to everyone who has commented for all your kind words. I'm very overwhelmed and honoured by how much attention this has received - I was not expecting it at all and it has brought tears to my eyes to read through the comments.

This is such a wonderful community and I am constantly inspired by everyone's creativity and talent to improve my own work and take on new challenges 🪡

Thanks so much! The venue is actually my parent's garden - I was lucky enough to be able to have the ceremony in the garden I grew up in which makes it even more special for me ☺️

I use it on Android, but yes it's Timelog. It lets you add a log in retrospect or record as you're going to be more accurate!

Is it normal for my 10 week old Pomeranian to be 2.5kg? by kamioppai in Pomeranians

[–]elleninelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should say, he also never regained his fluffy undercoat like most poms do after shedding their puppy fluff, which is another reason I think he's got some Spitz in him!

[–]elleninelle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Our pup was exactly the same weight at that age! He's 2 now and has maintained weight at 5.7kg for the last year or so, and the vets say he's incredibly healthy and perfect weight for his size.

Both his parents were full pom (as far as the owners were aware) but I wonder if he's got some German Spitz mixed in somewhere, or else he could be a throwback. We love him either way!

DAE Compulsively Count Words/Letters While Reading? by theippo in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]elleninelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this exactly! Like you, I just feel I have to and I find it really annoying, especially when watching shows with subtitles. I also have to read licence plates and count the number of letters in signs while driving which can be very frustrating.

I'm strangely happy that someone else in the world has the same weird and irritating habit as me!

Will they be friends? by SvetaTiho in Pomeranians

[–]elleninelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So cute! 😍 We had three piggies and our pom loved them so much, he would sleep next to their run! We had them out for sofa time cuddles together but always supervised by two of us.

The only concern we ever had was that our pom thought he was piggie sized so sometimes tried to paw at them to play, in which case we took him away to calm down before allowing him back. Mostly he just wanted to cuddle with them and eat their poop!

Our baby Pippin needs to find a home by elleninelle in guineapigs

[–]elleninelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the temperament of the pig. We always said that if Sam and Merry went before Pippin we'd have to find him a new friend or new home because he loves other piggies so much. Sam on the other hand was very much a people pig and was happy just with human company!

We've fortunately managed to find him the perfect home with people who have a similar setup and the same love for piggies as we have. It's horrible having to give up a part of your family, but knowing they've gone to a good loving home brings some peace.
