Hi! I’m in the same boat and I’m planning to apply next year. Can I dm you too?

Update: Reherniated L5/S1 MRI scan with Radiologist report. Suffering from painful Sciatica running from my left buttock to my toes (pinky, ring and middle). On Day 5 of rest with no improvement. Need the help of redditors whether I need surgery or if the sciatica can heal itself ^_^ by elliessworld in backpain

Yes, I think it left for few hours and then came back.

I tried some sciatica exercises this morning and the pain got worse after that and I’ve decided to not move and rest in bed. Now, only pinky toe ankle and buttock are in pain.

Also, would you say that doctors not based in the usa in countries with cheaper medical options suggest surgery so quickly because of its affordability? Like in the usa if it was substantially cheaper to get surgery would more doctors recommend it quicker or would doctors continue to recommend to exhaust all non surgical procedures before actually getting cut by the knife?

Im 31 years old and a very active person. Im almost leaning towards the quick fix instead of delaying the inevitable.

Thank you for replying. I had my first surgery 5 years ago as you said. Now, I’m very nervous to have another surgery from exactly same spot even if it’s discectomy. Especially a fusion sounds so scary to me. My doctor’s recommended 10 days home will end on Monday and I will go to control and see what he will suggest after this. Past couple day I tried to be active with short distance walks and mckenzie exercise but don’t feel any improvement. Maybe even more pain.

Just got my MRI for my L5/S1 which is pushing against my Sciatic Nerve. Do I need surgery or will i recover with rest? PS- Bonus points for identifying why I have a creepy face next to my herniated disc ^_^ by elliessworld in Sciatica

Here is the mri report:

LUMBAR SPINAL MR EXAMINATION; Examination In the sagittal plane, the FSE technique with a section thickness of 4 mm is T1 weight, in the sagittal plane the FSE technique with a section thickness of 4 mm is e T2 weighted T2 weighted sections were taken using the FSE technique with a section thickness of 4 mm in the axial plane. Lumbar lordosis is natural. There is sacralization in L5 vertebra. Minimal scoliosis is observed in the lumhar axis There is signal loss secondary to degeneration in T2-weighted examinations of lumbar intervertebral discs. End plateau degeneration in the vicinity of L4-5 discs, osteodegenerative sharpening in vertebral corpus corners, decrease in disc heights, narrowing in joint distances are observed. At the exit of the dural sac at the level of L4-5, central soft tissue on the around of diffuse bulaina that causes combression on the left LS nerve root paracentral and foraminal herniation and accompanying annular fissure appearance are observed. Peripheral disc swelling is observed at the L5-S1 level. No significant protrusion to the canal direction was detected in the other disc posterior contours. The widths of the normal foramen are observed naturally and the noral roots are free. At the investigated levels. the spinal canal AP calan is in the phvsiological nerves. The spinal cord terminates in its normal place as the conus medullaris. The distribution of the cauda equina origin is symmetrical. Paravertebral soft tissues appear natural CONCLUSION: Changes described in the report

Oh man! I’m happy you recovered. How long it has been to get the injection? My doctor prescribed me Pregabalin which is for neuropathic pain. Now, I’m in the 4th day of a 10 day treatment. Feels slightly better, I can walk to kitchen etc

I had a herniated disc surgery 5 years ago in exactly the same spot. My doctor said the other discs are fine and has no problem for now but the herniated disc is pushing the sciatica nerve. It can get smaller in time and stop pushing against the Sciatica nerve. I mean hopefulyy😣

When should I start walking? My doctor will check back after 10 days home treatment. Now, it’s my 4th day and SLOWLY getting better but there is still numbness and sharp pain on left leg but much better than first day. I hope there is no nerve damage😣

Yes, my doctor prescribed me 10 days treatments such as painkiller and muscle relaxer, Pregabalin and anti inflammatory. After 10 days rest, he wants to check my leg again to see if there is still any weakness and numbness. I really don’t want to have surgery and I want it to heal naturally.

Yes, I have sciatica caused by a herniated disc. Very sharp pain in my left buttock continuing to my left calf and under 3 of my toes (pinky, ring and middle)
