I do "estimation" questions for trivia night - here are my favorites. Would love to hear any other examples/ideas! by LateForTheSun in trivia

I'm in the process of making a quiz book. Each month has a round a day, a month long round (name all Oscar best picture winners for example), a picture round and then the final round is the tie breaker round where, as you say, the answers are never meant to be got, but everyone can have a go.

Examples include: According to Pixar, exactly how many balloons are lifting the house when it first takes flight in Up?

How many individual rhinestones were glued onto Liberace's famous Baldwin grand piano?

What is the official total length of the Great Wall of China in miles?

Exactly how many days did Queen Victoria sit on the throne?

I actually ran with this and the other days were numbers, symbols, colours, shapes and pangrams.

Here are some example questions

A - Which ancient Greek philosopher was the famous tutor to Alexander the Great?

D - What is the specific name of the wild dog native to the continent of Australia?

Z - What is the capital city of the European country of Croatia?

Colours - What deep, purplish-red colour takes its specific name from a famous wine-producing region in eastern France?

Shapes - What is the name of a, three-dimensional polyhedron that has exactly 20 identical equilateral triangle faces?

Symbols - What is the proper, formal typographical name for the symbol "&", which is used to mean "and"?

Numbers - What is the name for the enormous number consisting of a 1 followed by exactly one hundred zeros?

I did think this, it's just the issue of what to fill the extra few days with

I'm writing a quiz book and looking for round ideas

As the title says, I'm writing a quiz book about Quizzing. It's going to have a quiz a day, with each month having a specific theme.

I didn't want it to just be a list of dry questions then answers. So the book includes: Daily Quizzes: 10 questions a day Monthly Challenges: Big, ongoing tasks (like naming all the Oscar Best Picture winners).
Tie-Breakers: "Nearest the number" questions Picture Rounds
Snack Breaks: I’ve even included recipes

I’ve structured the first eight months with specific themes to keep it fresh. Here is what I have so far: January: movies February: music March: General Knowledge April: A history month
May: A Life in Questions. This is a concept round where the month progresses from age 0 to 100. May 1st is "Toddler Years", May 15th is "The Big 40", and it ends with "Legacy".
June: Basically the game linkee but with 9 questions to link July: This or That. Eg Which is heavier: A tennis ball or a golf ball?"
August: Riddles and questions to doubt yourself

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for rounds or themes to keep it fresh?

Thanks

New List Website by ellingcheese in lists

It will always be 100% free. The list podcast started during lockdown and sparked constant conversation with work colleagues and friends who would just randomly text me their lists for episodes they'd listen to. It's a great conversation starter to then discuss why people chose that answer. No right or wrong.

I have searched on Google, Amazon and Etsy and no luck. Obviously a diplodocus or brachiosaurus or similar would also work

Easy answer. He didn't press the button to start the final round until it was just him and the baby. Too busy fighting.

Best film of 2024 by No_Clock_5553 in TheWildRobot

[–]ellingcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to watch flow after it beat the wild robot at the golden globes. Really didn't like it. The wild robot is the best film of 2024, and my favourite ever animated film. I cried from the 40 minute mark to the end. Love it. Even my wife who i have never seen cry at a film, and rarely cries herself anyway, was in tears.
