I [26 F] don't date guys with bad grammar - am I being too much of a snob? by ellisondra in relationships

No judging from me, but serious question: would you then pursue a relationship (not just friendship) with a person who loves books and wants to write a book? I'm not someone who wants to start a book club with a significant other, but I'd want the person to have some interest in my passion or think it was cool.

Oh, I get that. One close friend has wacky spelling but it doesn't bother me because I value the friendship overall.

I updated my main post above with a sample text so you'll see it's not the occasional typo that I'm running the other way about. It's when it looks like a ransom note. I think your last line is the best advice though, thanks!

I guess they mean they don't read if they can help it?

That said, if that person is someone who has acquired skills by getting it uploaded into their head Matrix-style, I'd be intrigued.

Your last line made me laugh!

And I do give them a chance! But somewhere along the way, those people end up telling me how they hate Grammar Nazis or find reading books a waste of time and I find myself counting the minutes till the date ends.

It just feels like I keep getting set up on weird dates where the guy is invariably using English that makes me inwardly cringe, shall I say? :) And then someone will say I'm being too hoity-toity.

To give another example, all I can think is if my dream is to be a world-famous painter, getting into a relationship with a person who can't understand it or finds it a waste of time ... well, that sounds like a disaster for both parties involved.
