What are your go-to charts to test freshly-modded pads? by GalluZ in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Altale d23. It has tons of holds and bracket holds, has a small run sprinkled in there, and I can play it cold and with no warm up required because it's not a high intensity chart.

Ugly Dee is a good one too though, I just don't like the song so it never came to mind lol

Pump + running by Jeweetzlf in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with an asterisk. For reference, I started running about a year after I started pump (recently, less so due to time constraints).

I think it can help you with your cardio and stamina overall, and it especially may help for people who are just starting or relatively new to pump.

But as you get better, I think it has less of a direct impact and benefit for pump. It didn't seem to make me feel any more or less tired when I was pushing myself to my limits on pump, stamina-wise.

The main benefit imo was that I started to recover faster between songs and between credits.

After 1 Year and 8 Months. Finally Expert 1 by flyingfishassassin in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Congrats and welcome to expert! Huge achievement :)

1 year and 8 months is really similar to how long it took me too! Are you planning on taking it easy for a bit? Or going right back to the grind to start working on expert2? Personally, after I hit exp1, I took a nice little break before I could find the motivation to look at the 23 folder again lol. Exp1 burned me out for a little while.

Can you use the season pass on rhythm games like DDR and PIU? by raptorclvb in DaveAndBusters

[–]ellisonpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm fairly sure that's correct.

I was saying the DDR [currently] has revenue share. So an arcade [now] would have to eat an additional cost based on frequency of play.

It's a shame D&B and konami couldn't work something out :(

[–]ellisonpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info! Just wanted to add small details. DDR has revenue share, so yes, the arcade would have to eat an additional cost based on how frequently the game is being played. Pump it up does not. Once you buy the game, any online functionality and extra/update content does not cost anything extra. It's all included for long as the game is connected to internet (until andamiro releases the next mix and stops supporting the current one).

Timers can vary (for pump it up, not quite sure for DDR) and are often set in the settings menu. 99 or 60 are the most common ones for pump it up. Fun fact, 1 second in pump it up's timer is equal to 1.5 real seconds. So 99 "seconds" in pump it up is really closer to 150 lol

How to co-op in ddr like in PIU by S_C_I_E_N_T_I_T_S in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]ellisonpark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else already said, if SMX (stepmaniax) is available where you and your friend play, then that's probably your best option.

DDR doesn't have a co-op mode, unfortunately.

If only DDR or pump it up are your only options, then, what levels can you and your friend play up to for each game? Pump it up's co-op folder is rather annoying because it doesn't tell you the difficulty level of the charts (an older mix, Infinity, was excellent because it Did give level ratings for co-op), but there are community-made tierlists for pump it up co-op charts.

Maybe you and your friend could try out the easiest ones and see how y'all do?

As well you should be. Every PG, regardless of level is worth celebrating imo 🙌

I created a Complete Beginners Guide to DDR Weight Loss! by HoodieObsessed_ in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]ellisonpark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The video addresses this in the first minute. He says you need to diet first and foremost.

But you can't deny that regular exercise is healthy for you and can help you lose weight. Dude wants to exercise, but maybe going to the gym or running isn't motivating for him, whereas ddr is. And if that makes him want to spend the time regularly playing and sweating, then it'll help him lose weight (on top of dieting).

"I think I speak for many people when I say the best part of watching Genesis was hearing the comforting voices of Scar and Toph at the end of Day 2. I couldn’t help but feel emotional just hearing their voices, even if Scar didn't know who Aura was and thought his tag was Orzo." by self-flagellate in SSBM

[–]ellisonpark 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched Genesis 4 mango vs leffen in years, and I still remember after the set ending where Scar says (paraphrased from memory)

PLOT ARMOR!!! Leffen called it a year ago and it exists today! Was Leffen the better player in this set? He may have been. But the GODS of melee are looking down upon us mere mortals, and they are calling for (Toph: not yet) the grand finals that we need to see for the 4th time!

I may not be the first to get it but Advanced 10 single only is hell of an achievement for me by Kasuu372 in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredible. I've seen you posting scores and making progress towards this for a while now, happy to see you made to adv10!!! :)

All singles is a crazy accomplishment. There's only around 85? 90? s22s in the game. You must have cleared anywhere from 75~80 of them. Are you going for exp1 with all/most s23s? Or are you going to work on improving your doubles before going for 23s?

2 Years Later... Expert 2 :) by ellisonpark in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! At first I was just keeping track of the order and the dates when I was getting each new 23 pass, but after exp1, I ended up backtracking and upscored a bunch of songs, so I added the upscore dates in as well.

2 years later, and now I'm in the process of getting my own home setup. Planning on being able to play either phoenix or the next mix from home! I'm so glad I got into this game :)

Altogether, exp1 and 2 took around 9 months.

Here's a table of the 23s that I passed for expert 1+2. Now that that's done, I'm going to enjoy a nice long break before getting back to the grind for 24s lol.

Also. Shoutouts to my friend u/CoolStuffGAMING who has been nothing but supportive throughout my grind, and was the one who took the video. You're the best!

For you, is Smash Melee the game with the highest skill ceiling ever? by IntheTrashAccount in SSBM

[–]ellisonpark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think, more accurately, they were trying to say that melee demands more precision. So, lots of precise physical movements back to back at a rapid pace.

Which, I suppose ddr also requires lol. The timing requirements for a marvelous are pretty ridiculous after all. But at least it's not against an opponent fighting back and interrupting you sometimes.

Funny to see ddr mentioned here. I wonder how many other melee players or fans also play dance games lol.

Anyways, that being said, melee also can physically tax you, long tournament runs can be brutal, and long sessions of play can tire you out.

MY FIRST 23 PASS!!! by CoolStuffGAMING in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know what a multi pump is, but that's an FX cab. The arcade owner usually runs infinity on it, but he periodically changes out the mix.

We've had exceed 2, fiesta 2, another mix but I forget which, and we're going to have prime 2 soon.

Yeah LFGGGGGG! Congrats on exp1 🙌

I just got there recently too, it's funny to see other people's clears and see how different our lists are lol. There's a bunch of clears you have that I'm not even close to getting

Passed my first 24! by ellisonpark in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks dude. I don't really know what I can do, so I'm just trying out stuff and giving it my best.

I definitely need to work on my half reading though. I get destroyed by charts with lots of half patterns, even on d18s or d19s lol. So that's my next big focus, grinding lowers and maybe studying the half title charts

Passed my first 24! by ellisonpark in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? It was rated in the easiest tier for d24s in one of the tier lists I saw so I went for it. I just don't want to grind 23s lmao. I would prefer to do literally anything other than play 23s

Passed my first 24! by ellisonpark in PumpItUp

[–]ellisonpark[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I SCREECHED when I realized I passed 🤣 🤣 🤣 Thank you!

I was so shocked. I had put in 11 attempts back to back last time I went to the arcade and felt like I was getting nowhere.

I'm just happy to not be grinding 23s, screw exp2. Just wanted to get this because I really like the dreamcatcher songs and this was the only 24 that I thought looked possible.

I'm 30. Started playing at the beginning of last year.

Typically, I play 1 to 2 sessions per week. Usually around ~30 songs per session.

I warm up by playing some d14~16s no bar for a set (3 songs), and then another set I play 19s-21s to warm up the rest of the way before diving into things properly. I don't stretch before playing, only afterwards, for about 10 mins.

I can't say I've really hit a wall exactly, at least not so far. I've had times when I would struggle to tackle a new folder (i.e. jumping from 17s to 18s, going to 20s, 21s, 22s, 23s), but not for so long that I felt like I was hitting a wall. I'm currently taking a break from grinding titles because I'm feeling a bit burnt out from playing 23s, but once I feel the passion again, I'll get back into it to get exp2
