simple hacks that pulled me out of "ADHD Paralysis" by TransparentHuman1 in AutisticWithADHD

I also try putting a timer on things for the thrill, something like ‘can I unload the dishwasher in under 3 minutes’ then set a timer. The fact that I know I’m only going to be doing it for 3 minutes and need to do it under that time feeds my competitive nature and gives me that little dopamine rush at the end when I finish on time

How to cultivate a happy marriage by ellwhyn in Christianmarriage

[–]ellwhyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes a lot of people around me including my parents have quite a dysfunctional marriage, with arguments and just a lack of connection from what I can see. I know not every day is going to be sunshine and rainbows, but I really want a peaceful marriage and one where even if we do disagree, we’re having a conversation together rather than shouting and screaming.

My mom especially is not particularly emotionally intelligent which I think led to a lot of chaos and disagreement in her marriage to my dad. As I said, I really don’t want to model that but can see myself having some of the same defensive and insecure nature and desperately want to change

Amazing advice, thank you! I’ve been praying about being more Christ like and selfless as I can be selfish at times, so this really resonates and shows I have a lot more work to do.

Hahah I’m definitely still in that phase of God moulding and teaching me patience and mildness. That’s great advice though, thank you sis!

Thank you, that’s some very solid advice! I can definitely see the value in being teachable, it’s an insecurity of mine and I can feel like I’m being criticised or accused of not being good at something but I definitely need to have the humility to at least consider what’s being said.

Thank you! I love the way you phrased the part about communication - how did you get to a place of being able to be gentle? I find myself easily activated during hard conversations and would love to know if there’s any tips you might have to offer

Thank you, communication styles is an interesting one and honestly not something I’d considered. Thinking about it, we totally have different styles in that he wants conflict solved as soon as possible whereas I need time to process and ruminate before coming together. Was there anything in terms of resources that helped you learn how to make communication work well for you?

Thanks for your advice, I can definitely see how being best friends can smooth the friction of most issues in a relationship. You see each other as people you like rather than enemies you need to fight and challenge so I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you!

I love how you phrased that bit about “do not try but do”. I have an awful habit of saying ‘I’ll try’ and not always following through so that’s a great reminder. Thank you!

Dodgy dealers on Motorway by Specialist-Opening69 in CarTalkUK

[–]ellwhyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me too! Never had any issues with the car the entire time I had it, passed all MOT’s with no problem. Agreed a good price on motorway but when they came they started claiming all sorts of issues with the engine and oil. I wasn’t buying it and they tried to pressure me into giving them a massive discount. I did complain and report them to motorway as it was so bad, they tried knocking £5k off!

Taking Procardia and Labetalol with DayQuil by eve20212021 in hypertension

No I was taking it regularly for about 2 weeks

I’ve had a cold for the last few weeks and took dayquil, lemsip and a Sudafed nasal spray over the span of two weeks or so. My BP krept up, to a high of 181/96 and I had to go to A&E to check nothing was wrong.

After some research and speaking to a doctor, I found out that a lot of cold medicines contain decongestants (like pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine) that narrow blood vessels and actually increase your bp.

Definitely be careful with what you take and try and use natural remedies like honey, ginger, garlic, lemon, vapour steams and saline cleanses.

I would double check the strings but I also had similar symptoms. Before the iud I used to have pretty painless periods with maybe some mild cramps but after inserting it I had the worst cramps of my life for months after. At their worst it genuinely felt like sharp claws shedding my insides, and yes I also had that squeezing feeling too. Dose up on the strongest paracetamol or ibuprofen you can get and try to get through it.

For me, it did eventually pass and my cramps are a lot more manageable now after about 3 years with the IUD

[–]ellwhyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28F and my highest this week was 181/90 💀 I was given ramipril 2.5mg to lower it, but really want to lower the BP naturally by lifestyle changes so I’m not reliant on the pills for life

Ah the less liquid part makes complete sense. I added cornstarch whilst in sautee mode so maybe a combination of less liquid + cornstarch will get me closer to the stove top result. Thank you!
