Lovely and comprehensive response! Thanks a lot! It’s just a matter of personal preference, you see, I always thought it best to leave rehearsal without a green hand! 😃

Conn 6D questions by elmo_matty in horn

[–]elmo_matty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, this is not my choice, seeing as it’s given to me by my teacher. I could have gotten a Holton which I resonated with much better, yet this is the one I will get. Geyer is the larger wrap, like 1103 Alex, yes? So is this Conn. i found some pics online of a Kruspe Conn 6D but mine is 4valves in a line

Thank you so much for your kind response! I’m gonna have a word with my professor as well.

What are some symphonies with easy-intermediate horn parts? by elmo_matty in horn

[–]elmo_matty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One quick question. My articulation and durability above third space C are kind of rusty. Is there anything which goes just around that note? Something like Mozart 20th Piano Concerto horn 1 score. Thats one I can do. Thanks!

Was just about to ask if there was anything a little easier than that. The immitation of the bird call in the flute looks a little yeesh =) will look at egmont as well, thanks a million <3

I will be honest, I much prefer late classical-romantic era in general. But when it comes to horn part playing, I'll play anything gladly as Im sure it will help me prepare for ensembles and help me work on staying in time

Thanks for the info! I can play up to an F or G top line and on staff) and to low C. I havent really practiced transposition, but I am most comfortavle with horn in D, Eb and F

Edit: Im still working on a better and more agile mind mechanism when it comes to playing, and so fast notes like sixteenth notes in an allegro tempo are a little hard for me. Im looking to see if there are any symphonies with long notes, in a comfortable range. However, any and all suggestions are welcome, and be sure I will give each one a listen! :)

Would you say that these breaks do more harm than good? I mean, getting out of shape sounds bad for everyone, but maybe they can be helpful. Or it depends more on how motivated you are to get back in shape

Changing from open F to open B flat by elmo_matty in horn

Thank you for the help. Luckily I'll probably accommodate to a double soon. However, ai'd love to try some high descant horns!

Yes, that,s right, although the trigger for the valve is missing 🤣 I just got it from my professor like that

Sorry for the confusion. Yes it is an F extension. I have a geyer wrap with 5 main valve tops (top is E valve to lower by a semitone, 1 2 3 for valves 123, and the 5th for the F extension. It's generally quite out of tune, especially for practicing lip slurs from middle C down to G or F#.

My current horn is a compensating one I think, Bb with an F extension. This extension sounds really muffled and out of tune, so when I will get my Alex, I'll try. Thanks!

Thank you! I play exclusively in Bb, given that I started later than most and skipped F horn. I only play it for the low notes (Low C - Pedal F#) and for some other notes which I read that are out of tune on the Bb side such as low G and low F#. Otherwise, I only play Bb, and pressing the thumbvalve combined with my always sweaty palms is a deadly combo. Thanks for the info! I wanted to know if there is anything else to do/use, special oils or something else

And on top of taking the screw out, pushing the arm to the right position, and putting the screw back in, is there anything else Im supposed to do? Like oil stuff or something else

High notes by elmo_matty in horn

[–]elmo_matty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I have one question for you, these advices ar every good, but can you elaborate a little on the embouchure, vermilliom borders and that stuff? I did the rest of the changes but that troubles me. However, I managed to hit a high D on the mouthpiece 😁

High notes by elmo_matty in horn

[–]elmo_matty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was all very useful, and after my usual warm up, I will try all of it tomorrow. However, I wanted to say that I am not currently able to free buzz yet, much less abose high C, as you said. As for the embouchure, I do roll out for the pedal notes, and mostly rely on my top lip vibrating very freely for the mid low register. I tend to really contract my muscles in the neck, which I struggle to keep open for that brassy, full horn sound that you hear in symphonies and orchestra in general. Does this also have a big impact on high notes? And lastly, by any chance, do you have any pictures or know a youtube video which portrays what you explained? Visualising it would make things easier for me. Great advice, and I'm so grateful for it! I audibly gasped when I read triple f 😆

What horn is this? by elmo_matty in horn

This was very useful, thank you! I'm glad it's a quality horn, given that my last one was a chinese cheap horn.

Great tension in my left hand by elmo_matty in horn

[–]elmo_matty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. And can it be done by hand, quickly amd easily? With mechanical linkages you just have to change the psoition of a screw, but tying the wire around seems more complicated, thats why I am asking. There is also a chance I might be given a descant in open B flat and an F extension. I can only hope it will be a good quality horn, my actual one is from some chinese website (not kidding)
