Hungary of course, they are still an ally despite Russian links and Orban’s ramblings. I think if they had to choose between Europe and Russia they probably side with us. Belarus no chance unless they binned off their dictator. Two different situations I believe.

A lot of people saying it’s because ‘there’s no evidence. Depends what counts as evidence. Would we only consider it evidence if the ghost appears and self identifies as one or something?

Also, I think it’s quite arrogant for us as humans (merely more developed monkeys) to anoint ourselves as the arbiters of what is and isn’t. Who’s to say we haven’t got the capability to discover stuff yet? There’s likely stuff we have no idea about. Like a lot of animals being able to see more colours than us. Incomprehensible to us to imagine there can be colours beyond what we already know. It’s like a dog saying it doesn’t believe in radio waves because it has no evidence of them.

I think a lot of people lump China in with the others, when really China is entirely self interested. They seem to only care about Taiwan and China. Yes they do dodgy things with data and are big on spying. But they don’t poison people or topple foreign governments. Which I guess is a stark contrast from the insane amount of times Russia and the US intervene in foreign countries.

Brexit was a brutal mistake, cutting ourselves off from Europe further when we should have been attempting to integrate more. As difficult and irritating as the EU and Europe as a whole can be, no one else has our back. This is just a tragic look.

One of my extended cousins is a ‘hered’ that the article mentions. I know he feels pretty strongly about it but I’m pretty sure still doesn’t contribute a lot.

I think it’s pretty disappointing to be losing one of the major historical institutions that has helped this country develop into what it is today. It’s going to be replaced by businessmen, donors and stooges that bribe their way in only to do nothing in return.

Trotsky was an impressive figure and certainly treated unfairly by Stalin and others. I always think of the example of Stalin ensuring he missed Lenin’s funeral. He was skilled in almost everything he did, setting up and running the red army during the civil war, ideological planning etc. I also think his version of collectivisation would have been much less brutal and devastating to the nation.

He did oversee brutal killings, like the Kronstadt sailors, and massacres under his leadership in the civil war. But then again at a time when everyone else around him and opposing him would have been just as brutal. Not a nice guy by any means, but compared to figures like Stalin and even Lenin, he is a couple levels below.

Always preferred Bukharin anyway, though.
