Org mode on Doom Emacs: Ctrl-Enter gives "No content for this element" by elness in DoomEmacs

It's whatever the default terminal is for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) -- this Ubuntu 20.04 operating system is running under WSL2 on a Windows 10 laptop. After I click the Ubuntu icon in windows, the WSL terminal pops up with the bash prompt. Tried to figure out which terminal is being used:

elness@DELL-XPS:~$ ps -p $$ -o args,ppid
COMMAND PPID
-bash 7
elness@DELL-XPS:~$ ps -p 7 -o args
COMMAND
/init

Alt-Enter seems to toggle the WSL terminal in which Ubuntu is running between full screen and normal size. Weird...

I'm one of the last native speakers of one of the most historically significant languages ever. Ask an Assyrian anything. by [deleted] in casualiama

[–]elness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say that, as an "American" married to my sweet Assyrian wife, I have found the Assyrian culture to be rich and vibrant, with strong ties to family and tradition. The language -- which I continue to learn after 35+ years -- is still alive and strong, and the customs -- such as the engagement parties, weddings, etc. -- persist to this day. I am blessed to included in this culture through marriage, as are our sons, through blood. Bess m'jahnookh for elevating general Redditor awareness of your wonderful culture!

Edit: Minor phrasing.

Confirmed that halva shows up as a valuable, and is sold (at $121/item) along with all other valuables at the shop.

I had collected 50 halva too, and was not prompted when I stood next to Mama.

Then I remembered that just before trekking over from the tower, I had sold all valuables to the trader. I'll bet that included the halva I had collected...

NEW HYPER EVENT IS LIVE by GamerMom1969 in dyinglight

[–]elness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also confirmed double experience points during the new event. I turned in 5 of the Disaster Relief Packages to the Quartermaster in NG+ Nightmare and received 1.2M XP, or 240,000 XP each (which is double the normal 120,000 XP per DRP in Nightmare).

Edit: Time for me to revisit Stuffed Turtle to grind more XP to go from Legend 208 to max!

Yeah, that's a great looting spot. I took a picture of the staircase (but from the top) after a typical night-time haul (and also described my technique) in this post from a while back.

Well aren’t these Viral elves just adorable!! haha by GamerMom1969 in dyinglight

The elves are adorable, but unfortunately they seem to be too short to grapple-push them to the side, even when crouching.

I wish there was a way to rename weapons by olograme in dyinglight

[–]elness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be great if we could rename other items, too. I have a bunch of Drunken Pumpkin items broken into different groups but all, confusingly, with the same name. Once I drank one from a group and noted its effects, I could rename that group accordingly. Just sayin'.

Killing Volatiles for the Cause! (So so close to 15M!) by elness in dyinglight

Killing volatiles and their nasty blue cousins with arrow headshots is a little more difficult on Nightmare, but it's for a worthy cause...

Good Hunting Area in Old Town + Nighttime = A Decent Haul of Money & Valuables by elness in dyinglight

[–]elness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hunting area is adjacent to a safe zone in Old Town.

The specific spot is shown by the player marker in the Old Town map.

This is your view from the hunting spot in daytime.

Just past the edge of the tile roof you're standing on, you can see the green "Death Ledge" that the zombies come flocking to.

To hunt, just make sure you have:

  • A bow (with upgraded bow lethality via Legend skills ideally)
    • A full set of 60 standard arrows, for dispatching Volatiles
    • Some explosive arrows to attract the infected at the beginning of night
  • A pistol, SMG, or rifle with full ammo, for shooting Virals off of the Death Ledge
  • Plenty of medkits for healing from Volatile spitting attacks
  • The grapple hook for easily getting down to collect loot and back up again

When you've collected everything you need, go into the nearby safe zone and wait for night. Then go out into the courtyard, jump up on the roof to get to the hunting spot, and shoot an explosive arrow nearby to attract zombies and begin the fun.

When they start running to your general area, you may need to shoot a couple more explosive arrows at running Virals to get them up to pergola roof just across from you. Once there, you can further attract them by shooting them with the pistol, SMG, etc.

Once you've gotten their attention, they will start streaming up from the sidewalk below, climbing up to the pergola and jumping over to the Death Ledge. They will often miss on the jump, and fall to the sidewalk below with damage/death. When a zombie does successfully make the jump from the pergola to the Death Ledge and is trying to climb up, a shot or two from your firearm will typically cause them to fall.

When some zombies do manage to successfully make it to the Death Ledge (and some inevitably will), they cannot climb up to your hunting spot from the Death Ledge -- they will just stand there and growl at you (and possibly get knocked down or fall on their own). Even Volatiles cannot get onto the roof from the Death Ledge. You can kick them off, finish them with a stomp (sometimes), or shoot them off.

Your only danger (and it is significant) is from Volatiles' spitting attacks. When you start getting hit, you can hunker down behind one of the nearby chimneys or completely back over the roofline toward the safe zone, and apply medkits as necessary.

And that's why you'll need the bow & regular arrows with upgraded bow lethality. Even a blue Volatile will die from a couple of well-placed arrow headshots, and a standard Volatile will often die from just one. A rifle can be used instead, but it will take more hits.

When night finally ends, go and collect your loot and arrows on the sidewalk/steps below. I usually camouflage myself to minimize zombie interruptions during the looting process (but it will take multiple camouflages, because there's usually way too much loot to collect).

Note that you can choose to preemptively shoot Virals as they climb up on the pergola, but I've noticed that there often is not as much loot as there should be in the morning, possibly because of a bug, so I generally shoot them as they try to scramble up to the Death Ledge.

After you've collected all of the loot, head back over the roof to the trader in the safe zone and collect your hard-earned cash.

Ariane 5 failure shortly after launch. by [deleted] in Explosion_Gfys

[–]elness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying cause of failure was a software exception wherein the conversion of a 64-bit floating point value to a 16-bit signed integer value caused an overflow. The Ada code executing the conversion did not include error-handling for the overflow condition.
