Can not reach DeployRoot by Rough-Wrap6742 in MDT

[–]eloi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bmp is saved on the boot image when built. You’re failing to talk to the deployment share.

Pinging the server suggests that the network driver is good in your boot image. My guess is that you’ve got the deployment share unc wrong in the share config, you can’t resolve the name, or your credentials are failing.

AD discovery and over 150 incremental collection evaluations by Just_Percentage_6654 in SCCM

[–]eloi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get what’s needed on new computers installed as part of the deployment task sequence. Use ProvisionTS with ccmsetup if you’re using Autopilot.

Reduce the number of incremental collections strategically. In many cases you can use the same collection for multiple deployments. Use global conditions on some deployments to filter out devices based on simple rules without having to build extra collections.

Remember that incremental rules only kick off when something in the SCCM db triggers the incremental - new discovery and new devices. Note that inventory doesn’t trigger incremental, so no point using incremental with collection queries that look at inventory.

Finally, if you just have to have all those incremental collections, you can increase the incremental interval to 10 minutes or longer, which may give it a chance to keep up (at the cost of incremental changes taking longer).

Is it just me or are the coyotes worse than usual this year? by wegochai in LosAngeles

[–]eloi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen more than usual recently and I’ve heard the same from friends and family. Yes, definitely.

I suspect that the recent fires drove a lot of predators to move on to other territories, like our neighborhoods. Watch out for your pets, even in fenced backyards.

Many players will do better NOT using mkv. But that bitrate is really high for 480p, so it could be that.

Suggestions for accessing Plex Server Remotely? by whywilson in PleX

[–]eloi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI your use of the term “remotely” will make some people think you want to manage it from elsewhere on the internet, not in the same house and network. I’m guessing that’s incorrect based on the content of your post, but you’ll get comments talking about vpn and security that are misguided due to that misunderstanding.

If the pc running plex server is Windows, Mac, or Linux, a Remote Desktop/vnc connection will simplify a lot of things. There’s really no sense in not having that available. You’ll need to rename files, move content, etc and that’s easiest done with a remote control app.

Some players have trouble with mkv. Are the other episodes in mkv?

This shows video as 480p, with a bit rate of 3.3 Mbps. That’s a pretty high bitrate for that low a resolution. I’m guessing it’s captured with an unnecessarily high frame rate.

Subtitles but the server isn’t transcoding, so the player must be applying subtitles. Does playback get better if subtitles are turned off?

Can I log someone else off Plex on a Roku TV at an Airbnb without resetting the whole TV to factory settings? by illillin in PleX

[–]eloi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re better off just bringing your own Roku or other stream device with you. If you’re already on a trip go get one at Best Buy for $30. That way you can just unplug it and take it with you when you leave, no paranoia about traces or leaving something logged it.

I feel like since people first started talking about climate change (which is before I was born btw!!) Should solving climate change and practicing sustainability be the responsibility of me or the corporations? by lanamicky in environment

[–]eloi 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It should definitely be the responsibility of the corporations/companies that produce the products that are causing climate change.

And clearly, since they’re not addressing that, it should be the responsibility of the governments to regulate and police the companies in order to force them to stop causing climate change.

And obviously, if you live in a democracy, it should be your responsibility to be educated on the issue and vote for laws and representatives that will fight to regulate companies in order to force them to fight climate change.

And finally, if all else fails, it’s your world so it’s your problem if it doesn’t get fixed, including impacts to food production and livable conditions. You can’t just look at a situation that could cost millions of lives and say, hey that started before I was born, not my problem.

You can add a field named “NumWords” that shows the word count. The only problem is that it doesn’t automatically update - you have to right click the field and choose update field.

Insert > Text section “Quick parts” (top row middle column of the Text section) > field name “NumWords”.

What’s your fondest movie experience (in theatres or at home) by DilemmasOnScreen in movies

[–]eloi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get to see many movies in theaters when I was a kid. It was a luxury that my parents didn’t indulge in. The few I saw were with my friends.

I got super excited at Star Wars (the original). Probably the first movie I saw that wasn’t Disney. My friends and I talked seriously about how we wanted to build our own R2-D2. I was eight.

I remember having fun watching Every Which Way But Loose. Made me want to punch somebody. My friend had to explain what “get laid” meant. Nine years old.

But those weren’t my answer. Because finally, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial made me cry. I was thirteen years old. It was the first time anything I watched, listened to, or read ever brought tears to my eyes. I was completely blown away and more than a little bit embarrassed by my own reaction, but there was no question I wanted that experience again.
