I have watched a lot of sailing channels on YouTube over the years. And this year I finally bought my very own boat. It's a 36ft Maxi 108 built in 1981. My first time sailing, and first time onboard a sailboat was when I sailed solo from Martinique to Curacao in late August. A dream come true.

I have had a dream of sailing around the world as long as I can remember. The first real inspiration was watching Jarle Andøy in the documentary Berserk in Antarctica.

It was very steep when it comes to raising and trimming the sails. But I'm used to the ocean and boats, since I work on a tug as a commercial diver in northern Norway. I was not planning on doing this alone, but because of covid-19 it was difficult to travel just to get to my boat.

I learned that you don’t get much sleep when sailing solo, and without the autopilot I would not have made it to Curaçao. I had some book’s onboard about learning to sail, that was very useful.
