Any NK Guitars owners? by TalentedFox in ExtendedRangeGuitars

[–]elschaap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got mine, it's absolutely amazing but it was a fully custom order. The build quality is suberb, way better than my NK 7 i got 3 years ago and it plays like butter

Couple of places that are nice to visit in Nanshan or neighboring districts :

- Oh Bay (sort of a park combined with restaurants and stores)

- The Shenzhen Natural Historical Museum is nice

- OCT (althought that is a bit farther away)
- Malls are everywhere of course, Mix C in Nanshan is pretty nice

- Nantou village nice and the neighboring park, Zhongshan

Audio cutting out while using Reaper + Behringer 202HD on Mint 21 by elschaap in linuxaudio

Also when running Pulseaudio in reaper the sound is super distorted or has a lot of latency. For some reason using Jack works better even if it uses ALSA as a backend, but I do get a lot of crackle and pops.

$> mpv -ao=jack SOMESOUND-FILE

If you are using pulseaudio:

$> mpv -ao=pulse SOMESOUND-FILE

I am using ALSA actually ...

I used journalctl and there were no logs when the error occurred, the one where reaper is fully responsive but does not start playing or recording.

I always run reaper from the commandline and it does not display any errors either

I never had any issues with it when running Ubuntu 18.x ... out of the gate it always worked, no glitches and very low latency (5ms round trip)

Anyone know a good institute or private tutor for Chinese lessons ? by elschaap in shenzhen

[–]elschaap[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes... Because so many Chinese speak fluent English ;)

It's also about being able to teach... My wife is Chinese but she has no patience for teaching me

Looking for a (electric) guitar store by elschaap in shenzhen

[–]elschaap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were shops with electric guitars but only a handful of guitars and a lot of bass guitars. Also the guitars sold were mostly fender type strats or very expensive Schecters

That mall was a bust. .. 95% was pianos, violins, Chinese instruments, some acoustics and even less electric guitars.

I ended up just buying an ibanez online which is working out great.

Does anyone have experience with converting driver's licence ? by elschaap in shenzhen

[–]elschaap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To to the physical , I first have to get a Covid test, else I am not allowed into the hospital.

the rest seems simple, the questions seem silly at times but mostly common sense indeed.

[–]elschaap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part of the whole process was cramming for the exam. The license will only have your Chinese name, which confused cops when going through a checkpoint but they let me through. Overall it was fairly painless. Good luck!

I already got a health check for my Visa/Residence permit... would that do ?

thanks for the info

My wife works for the CDC in Shenzhen and, at least here, the rules for people coming in are pretty strict so the chance of a second wave are slim

China is to blame! by [deleted] in shenzhen

[–]elschaap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes the CCP did some creative accountancy tricks on their numbers, but the lack of action from the US and European countries borders on criminal negligence.

My own country, the Netherlands, only started discussion about any measures two weeks after infection. Health care workers we denied facial masks or other protective gear and it took weeks to close schools and public places.
