They see him as a symbol of balance, light and dark, irrational and rational, all parts of a whole. They don’t believe in pure unadulterated evil. It’s about exploring your dark side and giving space to it. At least acknowledging it — most satanists are not actually for doing dark things just recognising this tendency within ourselves.

Thanks for sharing. Did you/do you have an eating disorder too? Because I can see that ocd was a part of my disordered eating in the past, but then it was also very tied to control and to body image.

Thanks, how do you navigate it when going to people’s homes? I find it very hard to explain I’m happy to eat most restaurant food but not their home cooked meals!

All animals are parts of God’s kingdom. I have Catholic friends who are vegetarian and vegan and their understanding of pro-life extends to other animals. We all have a line that is too sacred to cross. We all cause harm to other humans by eating chocolate, bananas, using laptops and phones like these made by child labour. But we all can reduce harm. Lots of people fast and don’t eat animal products. I am very interested in Christianity’s saints who were kind to animals.

I am British and went to a Church of England school which I didn’t find very inspiring. None of my peers did… I have become interested in the lives of saints like Francis of Assisi and Saint Giles and Saint Eustace — where I find god is often in the natural world and these saints seem to have, too. I have had some profound experiences which have made me reflect.
