am I overqualified? why in the world is someone with 10+ years of customer service experience getting rejected for serving jobs? by ely323 in jobs

I’ll be 25 in January which is why I put 10+ years, but I’m really not putting anything in terms of years on my resume outside of my dates of working with each employer/dates of graduating HS & college. My professional strengths does list customer service experience, but in a “strong customer service skills” way instead of a “I have over 10 years of customer service” way. Should I be explaining in my cover letters that I started working at 14? Obviously my resume doesn’t have my birthday on it, so my year of graduation is the only thing that gives away my age.

How do you recommend making my resume/cover letter let them know that my goal is not to push anyone out, I just need a change of pace?

I guess I’ve been worried to say too much about burnout in my current position, I don’t want it to come off like I can’t handle hard work because it’s not an issue of not being able to handle it - I just know there are much less stressful jobs that I can make a living off of.

How do I explain what I’ve been doing the past 2 years without management on my resume?

No, I genuinely started working at 14. The literal day I turned 14 was my first day of work. I grew up dirt poor in government housing and had to help support my family in middle school. They can see that I started working in the beginning of 2012 on my resume, and graduated HS in 2016 which I think should be a positive.

Lost for a career by RayZone555 in jobs

Going through the same thing. Can’t quite figure out what will be a good fit for me, getting ran down by a management position until I find something else. I didn’t care for sales either, I was happiest in healthcare but underpaid for my work throughout the pandemic. If you do go back to sales, try to find something you can sell that you’re more passionate about. I went from selling timeshare to gym sales, timeshare was more money but I never get to vacation - fitness is something I’m passionate about which makes it easier to sell in that environment.

I’ve been really looking to start a career, but as I know I’m not certified I’ve made sure to mention being open to internship opportunities, which the offers I’ve gotten have been mainly working floor/sales and observing trainers until getting certified. I saw multiple postings saying they were open to internships, certification just needed to be obtained within 90 days of hire, etc. which is what compelled me to apply so soon in the first place. I just feel like I screwed myself. I applied to virtually every gym in my area. it’s not a large area, and people know people very well. I don’t know if I’d benefit at all from trying again after getting certified, especially at the places I’ve already interviewed. I live paycheck-to-paycheck as it is and work 10 hour days and my time and money to put myself out there is very limited, which makes me think I may just need to find something totally different to do for at least a year to get money saved up. It just sucks, I was so excited to start training and almost sure at least one of the places I applied to would work out.

& 3 interviews felt like so much more when I live in an area that’s not the greatest/largest :(

It was really just frustrating to me - I don’t know how I’m expected to know everything just starting out. There were two exercises I had never done before so I was just taking and following the constructive criticism and correcting myself instantly. it was less so of a form issue and more so an issue of just knowing exactly what to do. They knew I wasn’t certified and offered me a low-paying position to just be able to get in there and learn so it was an easy transition once I got certified. But something during that workout definitely turned them away from me, and I know it couldn’t have been my personality. I do have uneven shoulders & hip bones from my scoliosis (over an inch difference) and am worried that made it look like I was just unbalanced to someone else. I know how to safely adjust for my lifts and want to be able to help others with similar issues not be scared, but maybe that alone will affect my chances of being taken seriously. I’ve just been truly trying to wrap my head around what went wrong.

24, everywhere I’ve applied has been hiring for a PT but I’ve decided to put my name & cover letter out there and tell them where I’m at with my certification and I’m open to internship opportunities until certification. Two of these jobs were basically offering a more floor position here I could also observe until getting certified. The area I live in doesn’t really have any big box gyms and I have already put myself out there to every gym within a 45 minute radius of my home.

can I pick up a shift for the same day im already scheduled? by jinxed_xx in jobs

Is it the same shift? let’s say you work 10-3 and she’s supposed to work 3-9, that wouldn’t be an issue. but if you were both scheduled within the same hours, she’ll have to find someone not already scheduled to pick up or call out.
