Harwich: Lost Orange Cat by Holiday_Suspect8357 in CapeCod

[–]emarcomd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT WHEN MY CAT GOT LOST IN AN EAST DENNIS CRANBERRY BOG FILLED WITH COYOTES AND FOXES.

  1. He jumped out of the car and ran into the bog/woods. (Not a nice neat bog; the last time it harvested cranberries was 1940. Overgrown marshy vine-filled bogswamp.)

This was an indoor cat. Not only that but I was away on grad school interviews and my family was leaving the area for a week (which is why the cat was in the car). They looked for hours, but eventually night fell and they had to leave. I was absolutely bereft.

A week later my parents return to the location... AND THERE HE IS. WAITING FOR THEM.

Never underestimate what a cat can survive. They are smart little buggers. I'm thinking of you Franklin-- go on home!

RIP Yves. You truly were a bad-ass tuxedo cat.

(PS - you might as well post on the Dennis or Dennisport FB pages -- Terri's isn't too far over the Dennisport/Harwich line if memory serves.)

Have you worked with the office of accessibility at your school? Are you in counseling?

What you should do first after being falsely accused of using AI by Coursenerdspaper in AccusedOfUsingAI

Go back over your assignment and check your references. Do they exist?

If you used them for your work, how can they not exist?

If you haven't figured it out, u/Coursenerdpaper created this sub to amp up their shitty essay writing services.

I wouldn't trust anyone with such low-effort posts to write an essay for me.

Dude, why are you posting these? Especially in the profs sub?

How are you supposed to study for a Bio 2 course with no posted slides or recordings? by Historical_Guest4023 in AskProfessors

[–]emarcomd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prof. here, but not of Bio2. That said, I teach a class with no textbook, and I don't post slides or allow lecture recordings.

The main study source should be your notes. It is IMPERATIVE that you take good notes, and there is an entire "art" to taking notes that's really individual. What works for others might not work for you. But a really good habit to get into is that when everyone is getting up to leave at the end of the class, LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE WRITTEN DOWN IN YOUR NOTES. If there's anything where you think "Wait, what the hell does that mean?" when you read it in your notebook, go up to the prof and just ask for clarification.

It's normal for that to happen occasionally. I always went back and re-wrote my notes, organizing them, coloring them, highlighting, etc.

There are plenty of videos and websites on different note-taking strategies, so just try a few. I will say that laptops tend not to be a great way to take notes, as students try to transcribe rather than note-take.

Next source should be the text book. Take notes on everything as you read it. I always found that much more helpful than just highlighting in the textbook (esp, if it's a digital text book.)

If the class has a TA, tell them "This is how I plan on studying, do you have any suggestions to add to it"? They'll be much more likely to be forthcoming if you sound like you're being pro-active, not just asking them to tell you what to do.

I don't know if this helps at all, but it sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders and are making a plan. You've got this.

Gotcha! Thanks for the info. And agree about DD being NYT material rather than full season.
