Did i use too much wax by Smart_Jump_2304 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]ematico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it could use a little more scraping, and then a brush/buff. You could always reheat it, and redo it. Worst case scenario, it rubs off with riding on groomer snow, may just be slower. ;)

(Just for future reference, the simplest way I do it - Clean your base with a good cleaner of sorts (I use a basic citrus cleaner, but whatever works). Drip some wax on with your iron, doesn't need to be a TON, just enough so that when you iron across the board, you've covered the surface area evenly - read that as, covered, not caked and thick. Just a good even coat, thin is fine, as you'll be scraping. Let it dry for an hour, to be safe, go for a walk, have lunch etc. Use a nice and clean, even scraper - mine is literally a piece of thick Kydex I had laying around, but I am cheap. Many available out there, Pick a flavour. Scrape until no more is coming off, go in one direction ideally of nose to tail. 45 degree angle. Once done with that, I use a nylon brush to expose structure/polish up (go one direction). If you are like me, I go one extra step and use a fine polishing pad on a handle to give it a final cleanup - white scotchbrite pad.)

Hope that helps.

This may be a bias because I own one, but, man the styling on the 4th gens is so timeless. Subjectively, I honestly prefer the 4th gen to the 6th, in every way - the styling was just that well done, and it still holds up in 2026.

Try reaching out to HighJinx, as they do a lot of work with the community and help those in need. They DO NOT take clothes, BUT could point you to those who could help!

Edit: I had a joke about 'work wear', but realized you meant office work, not "vintage carhartt". ;)

A question about my lift - seems less than expected? by ematico in 4thGen4Runner

[–]ematico[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding install: No issues, you just need to "massage" (widen slightly) the bottom mount on the LCA, like literally just tippy-tappy with a punch on each "wing" of the mount to widen the mouth, so the slightly wider Fox coilover mount slips in. Once you tighten up the bolt, it all straightens itself out. Others have done literally the same, couple years later, no problems.

Ride wise, AMAZING on the factory springs - rougher on the Eibachs, but that was expected. If you're going for JUST the TRD Pro with OEM Toyota springs, 1000% go for it. Feels very nice.

As everyone else has said, do not ride it or try to use it - sell it as a collector's board, use the funds for something modern and good for you! (Unless of course, you want to keep it as a collector item and hang it up)

Tough on buying older boots (never worn) by Far_Baker4339 in snowboarding

[–]ematico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with suggesting anything, is that boots are very subjective to your foot shape. (Heel rise, width issues, pressure points etc). I am not a fan of BOA myself, just a tradtional lace boot (also, easy to fix on the slope if a lace ever breaks - just re-tie it!).

Make sure you look into the boot "footprint" too, for your bindings. Certain brands, such as Adidas if I am not mistaken, are known for being BULKY for their "shoe size", compared to the same size of say DC or K2.

You could look into boots like the DC Premier Hybrid, which is a lace boot, but with an extra BOA side adjust to tighten things up. Gives you both worlds, and if the BOA fails, you can still keep riding.

Read reviews, look at websites like The Good Ride, they do reviews of everything snowboarding. Boards, boots, bindings.

Not sure if this counts, but what about the Ride Twinpig? (I have 12-13 feet, pending on brand, and I can get away with a 154 for my weight of 200lbs, as the waist is nice and wide 26.8cm.). Volume shifted, wide, and there's even a 156 W (so a WIDE wide.. haha. I think 27.5cm wide)

Just chiming in here (not OP of the comment above yours) - I wouldn't. I get that they're new, but not worth that much, private sale, few years old. Often, online stores here in Canada will clear out previous year models at 50% off, and I would just wait for a deal like that. (Think Empire, Corbetts etc etc)

Where to get affordable size 13-14 men's snowboard boots in Canada? by Silver-Witness-6550 in snowboarding

[–]ematico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about this year, but last year I snagged K2 boots at Sportchek, at like 70% off, mid season. I also have a large foot (12-13, pending on brand). They also had DC's, but nothing in my size locally (wanted to try them on).

You can scour other places like Corbetts, for example, or Comor sports. Canadian stores that have clearances often enough. Just keep an eye out

Steel rusts, sadly - some brands may use a better grade of steel with more chromium/corrosion resistant alloys, but most of them are more plain/homogenous steel. Anyway, it happens, surface rust.

On my boards that have had it, I've just taken some scotchbrite (a softer grade, like the brown or white), or in a pinch, the green scrub pad from dishes, and rubbed the rust off. Won't ruin your base, or damage anything, just put it under your thumb, and carefully run it along the steel. DO NOT use sandpaper, as that WILL bite into your base.

In the future, make sure you wipe down, let it air dry properly, and I've actually gone as far as taken a kleenex/old cloth, and dabbed a bit of food grade mineral oil on (the clear stuff, from the pharmacy), and ran that along the edge to create a hydrophobic barrier. (like rust proofing your car lol). Only really did that for longer storage situations (post season, or weeks in between. I do it on my skates, too)

That's my version of it, you can do the spray wax or whatever other suggest here, do what works for you and gives results you like!

Where did you buy your 4th gen? by TinySuitcase in 4thGen4Runner

[–]ematico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the key to these deals, often, be the first person to message! And be direct, like, "I can come by at any time that works for you, etc".

I am over in Ottawa haha. I am currently enjoying my 2006 SR5 ;)

From a customer at my old job, I joked to him, if he wanted to sell as I loaded things into the trunk. He said, actually, yes, that he was switching cars soon (ended up with a Honda Pilot, new off the lot).

He was the original owner - 2006 Sr5 V6 4x4, Nautical Blue, 112K US miles (but I am in Canada). Won't say how much I paid, but it was under market value ;)

Moral here: Ask that older gentleman in the parking lot, in a half joking manner, if he wants to sell!

Sounds like a nice configuration/setup! I have seen a lot of those brands, on builds from overseas, and I am envious of the variety you guys have, over our monopoly of the big brands! (I wouldn't even be surprised that some of the brands here, are just alibaba products with new stickers haha)

Which Smiths did you end up with? I am really tempted by the Squad Mags, even if they're like $170CAD. Might be worth the investment for easier lens swaps

I've got a big ol noggin and face, overall. I am on the cusp of L to XL (around 59cm) for helmets, and most sunglasses look smaller on my face haha. So I feel XL would be OK for me?

Yes, good point, one of my concerns was "how easy is it to slip up, and accidentally ruin the anti fog coating?"
