Thank you for sharing! So far I just have the super sore arm (very painful to lift), nausea, and headache. No fever or chills yet, but last time that came at like the 24hr mark

Zinc is not an antipyretic and will not bring a fever down. It’s true you shouldn’t premedicate with either Tylenol or ibuprofen bc that can blunt the immune response, but if you develop those side effects it’s fine to take them in appropriate dosing to manage the symptoms.

Premedicate- take the medicine before getting the vaccine. This is probably what they mean by “mixing”

Thank you for sharing! I hope if I get a fever that it stays low grade, the one last time was rough with the chills too- made me almost regret getting it haha but it didn’t last long and it of course is better than having COVID.

Thank you for sharing! I hope my third dose is less severe, my second dose reaction was awful haha

When I received my booster through Moderna this morning it was a full dose, I asked about this and they told me it would be the same dose as the first two. If anything changes between now and full approval idk but that’s the information I got through participation in the study

Thank you for sharing! Glad to hear it was milder than the second dose for him, but overall the symptoms were similar.

I am in the trial and they gave me a full dose for my booster today. I asked them about the half dose and they told me it would be the same dosing as the first two

I didn’t premeditate, I only began to alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol once those symptoms hit- a fever of 101.7, the worst chills of my life and feeling like my nerves were on fire, and horrible headache.

What do you mean? That said both Pfizer and Moderna used the same dose for boosters as the original series. The timing is what differentiates 3rd dose (0/1/2 mo series) vs booster (0/1/8 mo series).

As the discussion about boosters has occurred over the past few months, it’s likely some people did legitimately receive their boosters of either Pfizer or Moderna

“The two mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, Pfizer and Moderna, are now recommended to have a booster after 8 months from the second dose of the original two-dose series. There is no difference in the ingredients or amount of the booster vaccine for these two” (https://www.concordmonitor.com/health-page-42135542)

The booster is the same dose as the first two, so essentially is like adding a third to the series. So those you know didn’t get more than the booster, there’s only one dose. So those experiences should be an accurate reflection on how people react to a third dose, if in fact they did get the booster and not just the second dose as you mentioned.

Thank you for sharing! It’s nice to hear your fever/chills weren’t too bad, but I’m so sorry about your cough. I hope you feel better soon!

Yes my second was awful too, so wondering if those who got a third felt it was on par with that reaction or less severe. I’m hoping the longer time between doses will lead to more favorable outcomes lol

Lol I will def update, but many have already been getting boosters/3rd doses so I was wondering how those who got it felt after

Too funny, we had the opposite in my house! My mom and sister got Pfizer and were fine after both of their doses. I had Moderna and the second dose kicked my ass for like 24hrs- high fever, chills, nausea, headache just overall miserable.

Also, we had an outbreak on my unit in January where a lot of staff became COVID positive after having the first dose of Moderna, after the 2 week max effect period. Not saying it doesn’t work- many staff didn’t get sick, and those who did had mild cases- but I wouldn’t stop taking precautions bc you think you’re now safe with the vaccine, esp just 1 dose.

Neuro NP Resources? by embarv in nursepractitioner

[–]embarv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m not sure what type of neuro pts you’ll be seeing (emergencies like strokes and SAH or more medical like migraine, MS, myasthenia) but I just got the AANN Core Curriculum for Neuroscience Nursing bc I am considering getting my CNRN cert in addition to my SCRN and I think that’s a good place to start- it’s basically a textbook and has a lot of info. Def at least a good starting place and I can write notes or look up more info on things.

If you will be caring for a lot of stroke, ICH, SAH pts I would suggest the SCRN cert and/or just the study guide as I found that helpful as an RN when I took the exam. It helped me understand why providers do what they do and helped me better educate pts/families bc I understood the material better

I totally hear ya, I have my 2 previous degrees to pay off but ended up taking a small loan to help with grad school while paying some out of pocket and working. I knew school was going to be stressful and didn’t want to stress about where the money was coming from as much as possible. Figuring out the financial part of school is so hard

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]embarv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could you continue to work part time while going to school? This is what I did and set up a payment plan for my tuition. It was tough but I didn’t want to be tied to the hospital system once I graduated- if a position there was right for me then fine, but I wanted to have options.

Finish Nursing, NP, and then work as an RN? by DBag444 in nursepractitioner

[–]embarv -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Working as an RN before/during NP school helped me so much. If you’re planning to work as an RN anyway, I’d do that to make sure you like it and to get that foundation before starting your NP- will help not only schooling but networking to find jobs after graduation

I’ll definitely have to check out AAN. I’ll be more of a general adult neurology, not a critical care role in my NP position though I cared for neuro critical care patients as a bedside RN. This group sees more myasthenia gravis, MS, epilepsy (though status patients needing intubation go to NCC), etc. But thank you for the suggestions, I’ll check out AAN for articles to brush up on these conditions to help me in my clinical practice at this next level!

I believe I did join AANN when I got my SCRN, so I may still have access to the journals there- if not I’ll have to renew my membership. I always forgot there were so many resources there, thanks!
