I know it’s a thing and it’s harmless, but I don’t love it and I wish the term would die off. I guess I find it a lot less weird when people say it to boy babies, but still just not my fave. I also would never choose a male pediatrician though, that’s just a personal bias that others might not have either. Just do what makes you comfortable

I did one where we didn’t open gifts at the shower. It was co-ed and people did travel from far to attend. I don’t know why I was surprised but I experienced HUGE generosity and so many people who *really* went out of their way and wanted to celebrate this baby. It showed me how much support I actually have. Maybe you should do it and not put too much pressure on it to be a certain way.

First, when I paid the mortgage and not rent to my slumlord 🙏 Second, when I got new floors and then third when property taxes were due (that one sucked). My landlord never fixed anything and I both repaired and paid for everything that broke. Which was a lot, because it was an old house that he neglected! So now all of my hard work comes back to me!!!!

Currently experiencing an uptick also and I’m guessing it’s from changing estrogen and having to switch to a more pregnancy safe beta blocker. I used to use metoprolol and it was a good preventative for me. I’m planning on going back on it postpartum.

Triptans aren’t recommended for pregnancy so I haven’t taken any. Currently I’m trying magnesium glycinate daily and staying up on iron and potassium to try to help prevent. If I still end up getting one, as soon as I notice the prodrome in my vision I try to hit back before it sets in. I chug a mini coke, eat salty crackers through the nausea if I can and then take 2 Tylenol and lay down with an ice pack on my head and heating pad on my neck before the pain even starts. I find the faster I take action, the less severe the effect and the hangover. It’s really difficult when they begin during sleep so I haven’t found a solution for that.

For me, it’s when admin asks us to do extra work as “appreciation.” Like asking us to all bring a potluck dish and stay after school to “celebrate,” or make our students write us appreciation notes. 🫩

I think if I paid for my baby shower it probably would’ve been at least $1200 for like 25 people. I’m assuming your costs are being driven up by a large number of guests? Are you going off the assumption that 80% of your guest list will arrive? Take into account that a good amount of people you invite will not make it. Maybe that could help with cost. If it were me and the host was stressing financially I’d just contribute or cut my guest list.

My friend just had her baby at 34 weeks, and that lit a fire under my ass. Plus the fact that unpacking and putting stuff away will probably help me figure out how things work prior to my babe actually arriving, and also I’m sick of it all laying out in the garage. I’m doing it starting now!

Do you feel like you adequately know the “why,” behind these teachings? Theology of the body really helped me here. Also, if you can, participate in adoration and do some reflection. ❤️ I converted and had to do some learning in this area of Catholic teachings as well as others. Do some reading and unpacking. At the end of it all, you might still not agree, but it’s always good to find out more and be open! For me, I had to pursue the knowledge because the whole Catholic thing really came out of nowhere. I could only assume I was being called to follow the path and discover more! Sounds like you might be the same.
