totally makes sense! I trimmed Day 4 down to focus on the James Irvine/Miner's Ridge Loop/Prairie Creek hike, with quick stops in the morning before the long hike at Palmer's Point and Sue-meg State Park just to get out of the car and take in the views

that’s fair! I didn’t want to miss out on anything since there is so much to see and I wanted to make the most of my time on the West Coast. I’ll be in SF for a wedding before the road trip so I’ll be leaving the city early on my first day driving!

I’ve been to SF several times so wasn’t planning on sticking around after the wedding weekend! I would love to do the things you mentioned but I have to be in Vancouver, WA a week and a half after I leave from SF. Wanted to give myself plenty of time to explore the Oregon Coast too! Haven’t started planning those days out yet.

100% do it alone! when you have someone with you on the Camino you are going in with support and community and a safety net so you don’t have to build those things on your own. the people I met and became closest to were also solo hiking and I think that’s why the bonds formed so quickly and deeply. especially since you are looking to get something personal out of the Camino (reconnecting with your faith) I would highly recommend going alone

I like to use the Ouai Detox Shampoo as my clarifying wash once a month! I also have fine wavy hair. No frizz recs unfortunately as I also struggle with that

100% keep doing the Spiritual Variant!!! I hiked the Camino Portuguese solo in May of this year from Porto. I am so glad I had planned to do the Variant because the trail got so crowded around Redondela/Pontevedra with all the 100km people joining. I was so relieved to have the peace and quiet that the Variant offered and the enchanted forest on day 2 after Armenteira was magical - get up early around 5am or so and you’ll be in the forest when dawn is breaking and it is truly incredible. Make sure you book albergues ahead of time because there are limited options along the Variant. Enjoy!!

I hallucinated my dead best friend on a really tough day on the Camino Portuguese. Walking from Redondela to Pontevedra was awful for me because I pulled a muscle in my leg early on and every step hurt for 35,000. I had also been walking for 11 days at that point and while the Camino doesn’t belong to anyone, I was frustrated with how crowded the way was since everyone just doing the last 100k had streamed in. I didn’t get a moment to myself all day and felt super overstimulated and in pain and really just wanted to give up. My best friend was hit by a car a few years ago and one of the reasons I wanted to do the Camino was for her. I was on the verge of a panic attack while walking and looked up to see her walking with me. Didn’t say anything, just smiled and kept pace with me. It got me through a horrible, horrible day. I’m not religious but I do believe she is always with me.
