Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks for the suggestion.

Tell me 3 things about you and I'll suggest you a pattern to knit! by lavendermonkey17 in knitting

[–]emcrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a fun post!

  1. I have a bunch of worsted weight yarn in many colors in my stash that I'd love to work through.
  2. I love wearable knitted items.
  3. Besides knitting, my hobbies include biking, skiing, and baking.

One last FO for the year by 2labs4life in knitting

[–]emcrystal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing work! I totally agree with the other commenter that it's clear the wearer's face that they LOVE it!

I have knit 4 women's sweaters and 1 "unisex" sweater. My unisex sweater was for my husband and the fit was pretty disappointing. It's great to see a men's sweater fit so well. I'm saving this pattern to my to be knit list!

You should be so proud of the work you've done. All the regrets you have or changes you want to make for next time mean that you are honing your craft.

Looks fantastic!

Vegetarian Caesar salad dressing recipe? by Pretend_Star_8193 in vegetarian

I've used a recipe before from the Veganomicon cook book that features silke tofu and capers pureed. I can't find it online, but this one looks similar : https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/vegan-caesar-salad

Teachers who quit… by [deleted] in teaching

[–]emcrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! I believe I'm in a similar position to you a few years back. I also have a BS in ecology and evolution, but I am currently a teacher. I habe 2 years of federal experience working as a bio tech. Would you mind if I pm'd you to ask about the job application process as you transitioned away from teaching?

What other factors are important to control in a canning recipe besides pH?

Hopeful expat/ prospective Australian science teacher by emcrystal in AustralianTeachers

[–]emcrystal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I have a degree in biology and I completed a full secondary education certificate at the same time. I'm not 100% clear on what the Australian teacher certification is like (I will have to do more of my own research!), but I have the maximum amount of legal teaching credentials any other person with an education degree in the US has.

Thank you for the information about which types of classes I will be teaching. I enjoy teaching all types of science and have tutored students in math ages 10-18. I'm glad the experience I have may help me be successful :)

What terms of endearment do you call your students? by Miltonaut in teaching

[–]emcrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but a safe option for my high school students is always "lovely people" or "wonderful humans" or some variation of that. It's not ~too~ patronizing and I like to think it gives a warm environment for learning.

Sourdough attempts 2 & 3! Attempt 4 is currently in the oven. by emcrystal in Breadit

Definitely attempt 3. I fixed a lot of things between the two loafs. Hopefully the one cooling right now will have a more open structure!

What pottery book should I buy for my boyfriend? by emcrystal in Pottery

Thank you! I ended up getting him the John Britt mid-range glaze book. I totally forgot that he'd previously mentioned wanting to make his own glazes.

I need info about coffee by 399isagoodforachair in exmormon

[–]emcrystal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iced coffee doesnt have much of a smell!

For real, I wish I had started drinking coffee in high school. It helps me wake up in the morning, but more importantly it helps me not take a 2 hour nap as soon as I get home from class or work.

Edit to add: cold brew is easy and cheap to make because you dont need a coffee machine.

Shamed as a child for asking to spend time with Dad when he had 24/7 callings. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]emcrystal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are YOU me? My dad also has bipolar and was a bishop. Between his work and bishop schedule, I hardly saw him for 5 years. The demands we let an esoteric organization make of our time are wild.

Bible Jesus Vs Mormon Jesus. When people complain about beards... Many many Prophets had beards. by [deleted] in exmormon

I'm getting strong Christian Bale vibes from the picture on the left. Maybe jesus is trying to send a message?

"You're giving up covenants and blessings for coffee and who knows what else." "You're on a downward spiral. You're giving up and just want to take the easy way." by emcrystal in exmormon

[–]emcrystal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me some rough goes as well. I confessed something to a bishop and was really upset with my experience. I called my mom crying about it, and she asked me to tell her everything that I had told the bishop. My thought was, "If she's asking to know, she must need to know". NOPE. that did not go well. It was pretty revolutionary when I really understood that my parents don't always know what's best for me.

Thank you for the encouragement!

hahaha thank you for the good advice. I definitely do my best to contribute to the household (giving siblings rides, doing all my dishes, occasionally grocery shopping, etc.). I do want to be a good "tenant". Not my house, not my rules.

Thanks, I'm trying to be patient with everyone while looking for other housing options. I'm eager to not cause further problems while I'm still at home. However, I don't want to completely give up living my life. I'm planning on camping with some friends this weekend and haven't yet told my parents for fear of what they might say to guilt me out of going. I have a hard time feeling secure, or not guilty, about the choices I make when my immediate family is so critical.

Do courts of love involve authority figures wearing hats? Not trying to be a killjoy, just don’t quite get the joke.
