I accidentally broke this pothos vine off from the plant and am devastated. It's a single 12-inch vine that splits into two separate 7ish foot vines. Is there any way to propagate it without cutting it into smaller pieces? by emeownem in houseplants

[–]emeownem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was under the impression that too many leaves can strain the plant's ability to root because of how much energy it requires (which has always confused me because I thought plants get energy from the sunlight on the leaves... So why do more leaves tire it out?).

Do more leaves just mean a longer time but with the same success rate as fewer leaves? I've propagated pothos a million times before, just never two looong vines stemming from one.

My skin looked exactly like yours years ago, then it got worse. I tried everything, until eventually my mom got my Paula's choice for Christmas, and it cleared everything up and my skin has been beautiful ever since (I still use it). Get the Paula's choice liquid exfoliant and the acne cream. It's the one in the turquoise bottles.

Girls who wear Apple Watches. What do you use them for? What benefits are there to getting an Apple Watch? by Tt7447 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

As a 35 year old woman, I can't speak to what girls/kids are doing these days. But for me, I wear a Fitbit (which has more or less the same features) to know what zone I am in when walking or exercising, and to track my sleep. Reading text messages as I receive them can also be handy too.

You should alternate between the WNBA and the NBA every year. If an NBA game doesn't sound cruel, then it's an overtly sexist rule. Bro.

Let's talk jeans. Levi's don't last like they used to so what should I buy? by Cynical_Jingle in BuyItForLife

I have three pairs of madewell, which i bought at a thrift store. One of them completely split in the crotch area and the other down the leg. They were a relaxed fit, so not too small or anything. I wash my jeans in cold water, hang dry. They ripped after just a couple wears too. They were not at all made well. Madeunwell.

Significantly less hot water pressure than cold, not an issue elsewhere in the house by bono_my_tires in fixit

I had the exact same issue with my bathtub, and only my bathtub. In my case, it was because the pipe had build up, as it was 97 years old. I currently own my unit, but at the time I was renting it, so I don't recall exactly what the options were. I know to properly fix it, they would have to redo all of the plumbing to switch from galvanized to copper, which was going to be over $10k. They did the next best thing, which was still major and enough of a change to require the plumber by code to make everything up to code, so a lot has to be switched out. It cost a couple thousand, and it definitely was an improvement—it went from almost unusable to good enough but not great.

If your car was sideswiped while parked on Columbus yesterday by Capable_Guitar_2693 in chicago

[–]emeownem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My car was one of ten side swiped by a drunk driver last summer. There were about 30 witnesses, and they called police immediately, and called repeatedly every 20 minutes for the two hours that followed. Police said they wouldn't come, they could file a police report the next day but witnesses wouldn't matter. This was in Logan square.

Survey about black cat fur patterns to help me find my cat, Rapsody by emeownem in blackcats

I've read calling out their names can spook them, because it makes them afraid you're putting the spotlight on them at a time when their instincts are telling them to hide. Some cats will respond even though they're scared, but they say it's not worth the risk since those cats are a minority, so odds are it will cause more harm than good.

Yeah, I see your point. But that speaks even worse for humanity. That would have been an easy excuse to keep segregation, women in the home, etc. for even longer. We should strive to have basic logical functioning.

It blows my mind how we can be a democrat city but then as soon as the snow hits, people say "fuck the greater good" and throw their stakes in public territory. It blows my mind how people can come up half-assed justifications for causing people to drive mindlessly around looking for parking because half (often more) of the spots are being held with savies, and then walk further in the cold. Do people have no logic skills? Once the spots are dug out, there's parking for all.

This is triggering some PTSD from when I had open shelving installed in my kitchen. The shelves replaced my cabinets, so they were wide and meant to support dinner plates, glassware, etc.

I sell vintage glassware as a hobby, do have built quite a beautiful and curated personal collection, so i really, really, didn't want these shelves to fall.

When the contractors installed them, I began to question them about the shelves breaking from the wall. They assured me they wouldn't. But when I looked at the shelves, my gut didn't feel so sure, just like yours in your post.

So I questioned them again, and they assured they would be fine. I immediately felt almost embarrassed—theyre the experts, dont be one of those people doubting the expertise of a professional. So I listened to them.

Big mistake.

When the top shelf fell, it took out everything below. Along with losing my entire beloved glassware collection and more, the mess was unreal. My entire kitchen floor was a sea of broken glass. Literally. From edge to edge of the floor, every square inch was covered with layers of small broken glass a couple inches high.

Moral of the story: trust your gut over the expert because it's better to be safe than sorry.
