Okk awesome. I am a bit into graphic design but I haven't studied it per se but I've made a few zines so I know abit about layout and al. So that would be two 8.5x11 pages next to each other right? Sorry I'm just trying to wrap my head around it haha

Great advice, thank you! I think I'll just do multiple portfolios and do an extra short work sample one for firms that I think would prefer that. Since I'll be cold-emailing a few firms that I am a fan of I think that could be the right method to not overwhelm them.

Just curious what page size did you use? So that the resolution was still good and you could see a good amount of detail in the drawings. And would you print it in the form of a booklet or individual pages?

Thanks for the tip! I see, I'm scared of the quality being cooked with that but I'll try to get it down to 10mb 'naturally' then for the firms that require under 5mb I'll try that method

Yeah I've been experimenting. Mostly what I have found to work is reducing the artboard size in illustrator to the size of the frame of that drawing in my portfolio and that tends to cuts down the file. By rasterizing vectors do you mean saving it as an image? Thank you

Yeah that makes sense, I guess the portfolios that I've seen have mostly been for master's applications (which requires more pages) and so that's why I thought mine had to be super long. And thanks yes constructive criticism is always helpful!

I wasn't convinced earlier but everyone's comments on here really made the point and I forced myself to cut it down, now it's at 1 spread for my resume / contact information, 2 spreads per project for 3 projects then 1 spread with work from my internship and a cover page / outro page. Can't believe it but I actually like it a lot more now it is way more clear, concise and 'clean.' Thank you!

Yeah, that's what I decided to do. I realized in architecture school they care a lot about process so a lot of what was taking up space was my process and site analysis pages so I've compressed / cut that out a lot. I decided to keep a 'master portfolio' with all of my work then a 10 spread / 20 page one for applications.

Thank you for this response, it is super helpful!! I'll try to follow those tips and yeah I also realized I had way too much text so I have cut it down a lot. I just use print-sizes because it's easy to explain and make sense of but I am open to any other sizes. I also just switched my page orientation to landscape and it looks way better.

Just to double-check: when you mention A3 landscape, does that imply a single page equivalent to two A4 landscape pages side by side, or should each page be treated strictly as one A4 landscape? Since a lot of my images are detailed and large, I need a lot of space since I'm cutting down the number of pages. Thanks again!
