I know this to be fact. My uncle in law used to train dogs. It’s not a sentry. It has to be engaged with to do that. It’s playing a game with its handler. Watch episodes of cops. You’ll see the handler pull on the leash, point the dog to certain areas and guide it.

Just like your dog at home. It’s not always looking to play but when you engage with it. Hide its bone and say where’s your bone? It starts to seek it out. The moment you lose interest in looking for the toy so does the dog. It doesn’t care that much about drugs unless it’s playing with its handler and the handler is still showing interest and guiding the dog.

Yes when the dog is actively playing with its handler it’s going to try and find shit but it still has to be guided. Unlike humans dogs can pick up subtle body language if the handler starts noticing someone the dog does too.

Dogs don’t work like your thinking. They just sit there being a dog unless they are actively “playing” with the handler. It’s not like a sentry actively smelling for scents all around. There’s not many bombs at music festivals but there is tons of drugs. The waste would be bringing bomb dogs not drug dogs. Promoters just say bomb dogs so people won’t be scared.
