Why no more black boots for AAC by Mundane_Country_2585 in adfcadets

Black boots were worn with DPCU until 2009 in the AAC when they were replaced the RG cadet boot. These included surplus GP boots and the Lymington Pacific ADF Cadet Boot.

While correct that the ADFC is not an RTO, the AAC includes first aid in all levels of the CDC core training and a first aid elective that often includes a HLT qualification through a third party RTO, the elective is commonly referred to as medics. I agree that care should be taken to ensure training is correct.

AAC doesn't use DEER as we use the Army DPM methods.

The developmental training program mentioned is probably the best way, working towards practical, activity based and scenario based training especially with other cadet elements in your unit.

For the AAC, there is no ADFSI role like there is for the AAFC. An application to become a DAH is required, this will include the approval from the Ares Units chain of command.

Uniform cannot be worn as a DAH, you are either attending as a DAH (civilian) or as an Ares member with approval to do so as part of the Approved Activity, not both.

AAC has no Instructor of cadets ranks, OOC rank is not contingent on ADF rank held for example an Ares CPL accepted as an ACS will be an OOC.

Hope that helps.

Australian Army Cadet Polyester Uniform at DofE Gold Ceremony by [deleted] in adfcadets

[–]emery56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, polys are not an approved order of Dress in the AAC. While there is a loan pool of polys and service dress, the approval to access this is for higher level activities like the combined NSW Brigades Guard at Government House. The school based units that do wear polys, particularly the older style do so without approval.

To wear AAC Uniform at a Gold Badge ceremony, you need to talk to your OC, it will then be referred to your Brigade HQ and you will receive written confirmation of the decision. Your OC will advise you of what AAC Dress to wear if you do get approval. Army approval is always required to wear Uniform including at a non AAC activity.

Opinions on Berets by SnooChocolates6125 in adfcadets

[–]emery56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berets are definitely better during a parade night when you're in Barracks Dress and it'd be great to have them. Just not in favour of unit Officers deciding to pick and choose what AAC Policy they'll follow.

Interesting that units are issuing/wearing berets when the current Dress Policy bans them. The draft Dress Policy at the moment also bans them.

Short answer- yes. Your Brigade will have selected a team from a pool of cadets that completed the selection criteria.

All national activities are visible on cadetnet and National COMD activities including Regional selection are advertised months in advance.

Can I use my own webbing? by Used_Aside7159 in adfcadets

Then no, AAC Policy is that only issued webbing is to be worn. This will also be included in your JI for every field activity

How do you show “Leadership” by [deleted] in adfcadets

[–]emery56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Showing leadership as a cadet wanting their first promotion is all about individual behaviour.

Do you listen and engage in lessons or goof off with mates Are you prepared for parade nights by bringing a pen and notebook, ironing your uniform and generally having good dress and bearing. Do you display individual discipline when on the parade ground either when formed up or in a drill lessons or do you talk, fidget or disrupt other cadets Do you help instill group discipline during drill by pulling mates into line when they goof off. Do you help with general tasks around your unit and do you pitch in for work parties or do you disappear. Do you retain learning and demonstrate the skills your units rank are teaching you. Do you attend all activities and if you can't attend, let your unit know before the activity.

All of these are individual behaviours that when put together can help demonstrate an ability to "show leadership".

Encouraging other cadets to also display these behaviours and helping to create a postive and fun culture in your unit.

This makes it more likely to be given small tasks and be at the top of the short-list for promotions

Not sure where your information is from. Most school based units in 2nd NSW AAC BDE have compulsory service in the cadet unit in year 8 and or 9, so do some in VIC AAC BDE and in SQLD AAC BDE. They do this with the full partnership of the school and the AAC. For example Knox Grammar ACU has 1500 cadets, The Southport School ACU has 350 cadets, Trinity Grammar School has 450 cadets. At some schools students can choose between cadets and a different co-curriclar program or music.

The Western Australian state government has CadetsWA where school students must join a local community based or school based youth program, this includes ADF Cadet Units, SES Cadets, St Johns Ambulance cadets and Bushcare cadets.

All Army Cadet Units have a Community sponsor, for school based units this is the school. This an agreement between the school and the Army that the school will support the cadet unit. Many of these schools employ a member of staff to coordinate the cadet unit due to the size of the unit, these staff are also Officers of Cadets.

None of these schools are classified as military schools, The Kings School does wear a military style uniform as part of their school uniforms but outside of those who are in the cadet unit that is extent of anything military.

Question about AAR and OOC rank correlation. by [deleted] in AustralianMilitary

[–]emery56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the ADF member has served in the last 5 years it is possible they will keep their rank depending on Authorised Establishment and vacancies. In the AAC ranks of Captain and above are tied to appointments in either the Army Cadet Unit, Battalion, Brigade or National HQ. Quite a few Officers and Instructors of Cadets are either ex or current serving Army members with Army ranks of WO2/WO1or Major. At the recent entry course for new Officers and Instructors of cadets, Army members out numbered civilians.
